In October 2003, the former Wuzhou City College of Education and the former Wuzhou Normal university were incorporated into Guangxi University Wuzhou, and in February 2006, the Ministry of Education approved the establishment of Wuzhou University on the basis of Guangxi University Wuzhou. Wuzhou University is a multidisciplinary public undergraduate institution run by the People's Government of the autonomous region. Wuzhou University is located in the city of Wuzhou, Guangxi, which is known as a thousand-year old city, a century-old commercial port and the world capital of artificial gems. Wuzhou City is the birthplace of higher education in Guangxi, and Guangxi University was established in Wuzhou in 1928.

The campus of Wuzhou University is located on the bank of the Guijiang River, which is surrounded by mountains and water, with a pleasant and elegant view. The campus covers an area of about 776,000 square metres, with an existing building area of about 375,000 square metres.

Wuzhou University currently has 14 teaching units, 7 teaching and support units, and 19 party and government organizations. The college is open to students from 27 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the Central Government, with 17,252 students enrolled. There are 1,476 teaching staff, of whom 1,020 are full-time teachers.

Based in Wuzhou, facing the two regions and radiating to Southeast Asia, the university will actively serve the national and regional development strategies. The College has the characteristics of cultivating talents for industry and trade, focusing on practice and serving the local community; cultivating the characteristics of running a university with close integration between the university and the local community and collaborating with the local community; serving the national and regional development strategies, and serving the regional characteristics of "reaching the sea through the rivers".

Wuzhou University has obvious characteristics of disciplines and majors. There are 56 undergraduate majors, 13 adult higher education majors, 3 college majors, and 22 senior high university majors, covering philosophy, economics, law, education, literature, agriculture, science, engineering, management, art and other disciplines. Electronic information engineering is a national first-class undergraduate major construction point, and international economics and trade, software engineering, mechanical design and manufacturing and its automation, product design, pharmaceutical engineering, digital media technology, primary education, communication engineering, clothing and costume design, Chinese language and literature, and business administration are autonomous region first-class undergraduate major construction points. Our university was approved to build new master's degree awarding units (master's A class) in Guangxi, and the cultivation and construction points are: electronic information, international business, materials and chemical engineering. Information and communication engineering is a first-class discipline (Class B) in Guangxi, signal and information processing, industrial economics, software engineering, machinery and automation are key disciplines in Guangxi, tourism management is a key cultivation discipline in Guangxi, electronic information engineering and international economics and trade are specialties of national universities, tourism management, art and design, software engineering, electronic information engineering, forestry and chemical industry, environmental design, international economics and trade, Pharmaceutical engineering, mechanical design and manufacturing and its automation and product design are specialties of Guangxi. Gemstone faceting design technology, virtual simulation training on the whole process of international trade of Lingnan specialties, materials and technology of popular ornaments, software engineering, international finance, advanced English 2, macroeconomics, WEB front-end technology and virtual simulation experiments on advanced process preparation of lateral diffusion MOSFET (LDMOS) devices are recognized as first-class undergraduate courses at the autonomous region level. The College of Modern Industries of Liubao Tea and the College of Modern Industries of Gemstones were identified as model modern industry colleges of ordinary undergraduate colleges in Guangxi.

Wuzhou University has achieved remarkable results in talent cultivation. Focusing on the goal of cultivating high-quality applied talents, the college has continuously deepened the teaching reform and the construction of quality engineering projects, and actively carried out the practice and exploration of cultivating applied talents. The College has solidly promoted the construction of quality projects, with 50 quality projects at all levels (from 2014 to the present), and has obtained 2 provincial-level virtual simulation experimental teaching centres, 1 autonomous region level engineering technology research centre and 1 autonomous region engineering research centre. "During the Thirteenth Five-Year Plan period, the College has set up 338 undergraduate teaching reform projects, including 89 undergraduate teaching reform projects in higher education in Guangxi. 34 teaching achievements have been awarded, including 3 first-class awards, 1 second-class award and 4 third-class awards at the autonomous region level. The project of "Exploration and Practice of New Engineering Talent Cultivation Practice and Innovation Platform for Local Optoelectronic Industry under the Collaborative Perspective" was awarded the second batch of "New Engineering" Research and Practice Project by the Ministry of Education. The college is the first batch of national-level crowdsourcing spaces in Guangxi colleges and universities, the demonstration base of entrepreneurship for college students in Guangxi, and the pilot college for overall transformation in Guangxi. Based on the comprehensive development centre for college students, the college has built a micro-enterprise incubation park for college students, a cultural and creative industry incubation park in Wuzhou City, a creative space, a Microsoft IT Academy and other innovation and entrepreneurship platforms for college students. It has set up 170 innovative experimental projects in open laboratories with funding amounting to RMB 510,000, 606 projects in the college's big innovation projects with funding amounting to more than RMB 2.7 million, and held 12 various university-level innovation and entrepreneurship competitions for college students with award funds amounting to RMB 250,000.

The scientific research work of Wuzhou University has been effective in serving the local community. In the past five years, 20 national research projects have been approved, including 14 National Social Science Foundation projects and 6 National Natural Science Foundation projects. The College has been awarded 76 provincial and ministerial level research projects and 197 municipal and departmental level projects. In 2018, the university presided over the declaration of the Guangxi Innovation-driven Development Special Project (Science and Technology Major Project) "Research and Development of Intelligent Key Technologies for Optical Microscope Equipment and Industrialisation", which was awarded a project with a funding of RMB 13 million by the autonomous region. The university has established 4 master's degree authorization points and was approved as the sixth batch of Guangxi Postdoctoral Innovation Practice Base Unit. Guangxi Intelligent Microscope Engineering Technology Research Centre and Guangxi Liubao Tea Germplasm Innovation and Comprehensive Utilisation Engineering Research Centre were approved as autonomous region engineering technology research centres, and "Wuzhou Jewellery Intelligent Manufacturing Engineering Technology Research Centre" and "Wuzhou Big Data Analysis and Processing Engineering Technology Research Centre " was recognized as Wuzhou Engineering Technology Research Center. Published more than 1,500 papers, including 389 core, 42 SCI, 47 EI and ISTP retrieved, and 45 academic books. Received 268 patents. Received 23 scientific research awards at provincial and ministerial levels, including one first-class award, seven second-class awards and 15 third-class awards for excellent achievements in social sciences in Guangxi. Focusing on local needs, the College has completed a number of major regional and municipal bidding projects, providing useful research results for the construction of the Pearl River-Xijiang Economic Belt and the development of local industries. The College has successfully researched and developed more than 20 sets of application software and equipment, and a series of intelligent processing equipment for artificial gemstones has reached a leading level in China. The "360-degree panoramic imaging system" has been exported to Europe and the United States, and the independently developed "auxiliary data platform for poverty eradication" has played an important role in the national and autonomous region's war on poverty eradication.
