Chongqing Electronic Science and Technology University was founded in 1965. In 2024, the Ministry of Education approved the establishment of Chongqing Electronic Science and Technology University based on Chongqing Electronic Engineering College. The university has become one of the first vocational universities at the undergraduate level during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period for the country to build a modern vocational education system and steadily develop vocational undergraduate education. It is the first public vocational university at the undergraduate level in Chongqing. 

The main campus of the university is located in Chongqing University Town, in the "intelligent core area" of the Western (Chongqing) Science City. It is adjacent to the China (Chongqing) Pilot Free Trade Zone, Chongqing Xiyong Microelectronics Industrial Park, and Chongqing Jinfeng Electronic Information Industrial Park, and serves major national strategies such as the Western (Chongqing) Science City and the Chengdu-Chongqing Twin-City Economic Circle. At the same time, in line with the dual demands of the functional positioning of the main urban new area of Chongqing and the development of the big data and intelligent industry, the university serves the high-quality development of Liangjiang New Area and Yongchuan District, and helps Chongqing build a western vocational education highland. 

The university currently has four campuses and one teaching site: the University Town Campus, Beibei Campus, Yongchuan Campus, and Liangjiang New Area Teaching Site. It has over 22,000 full-time students. The university consists of eight (professional) substantive colleges, namely the College of Artificial Intelligence and Big Data, the College of Electronics and Internet of Things, the College of Communication Engineering, the College of Intelligent Manufacturing and Automotive Engineering, the College of Finance and Management, the College of Digital Media, the College of Architecture and Materials, and the College of Smart Health, as well as three (educational) functional colleges: the College of General Education and International Studies, the College of Marxism, and the Department of Physical Education and National Defense Education. 

The school was selected as a national demonstration higher vocational college in 2008 and passed the national demonstration school assessment in the field of higher vocational education in 2011. In 2019, it was selected as a national high-quality junior college and a construction unit of the national high-level vocational school and professional construction plan. In 2024, it passed the acceptance with an "excellent" grade. The school is the first batch of pilot units for teaching work diagnosis and improvement by the Ministry of Education, the first batch of modern apprenticeship system pilot units, a national key construction vocational education teacher training base, a national vocational education "dual-qualified" teacher training base, and a national college graduate employment ability training base. It is also a national high-skilled talent training base by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security and the Ministry of Finance, a national demonstration unit for energy conservation and public institutions by the National Government Affairs Administration, the National Development and Reform Commission, and the Ministry of Finance, and a national energy efficiency leader unit. It is the only higher vocational college in China that has been approved as the main and auxiliary training bases for the 46th and 47th World Skills Competitions and has three Chinese expert group leaders. It is also a council member of the China Higher Education Society, a vice chairman unit of the Vocational and Technical Education Branch of the China Higher Education Society, and a vice president unit of the Chongqing Higher Education Society. 

The school has distinct professional characteristics. It leads its educational features with professional specialties, closely aligning with the construction of Chongqing's "33618" modern manufacturing industry cluster system. It has laid out 12 digital and intelligent characteristic professional clusters including Information Security and Management, and Internet of Things Engineering Technology. It offers 11 full-time vocational undergraduate programs and 65 full-time vocational college programs, creating professional clusters as "peaks", "plateaus", and "highlands", and forming a brand of professional clusters that connect the entire intelligent industry chain. The school has established 2 national-level high-level professional clusters, 18 national key (backbone) specialties, hosted 3 national-level professional teaching resource libraries, built 29 national-level courses and 13 national-level training bases, and published 100 national planning textbooks. In the "2024 Golden Apple Ranking of Overall Strength of Vocational College Specialties", 10 specialties of the school ranked first in the country in terms of competitiveness, and 34 specialties ranked among the top five in the country. 

The teaching staff is strong. The school implements the strategy of strengthening the school with talents and adheres to the concept of "every teacher shines". It aims to build high-level teams and leading talents. Currently, there are over 1,200 full-time teachers, among whom 38% hold senior professional titles, 87% have master's degrees or above, and 91% of professional course teachers are dual-qualified. The school has 6 national-level teaching teams represented by the National Huang Danyan-style Teacher Team, 4 national-level skill master studios, 9 provincial-level teaching and scientific innovation teams, 21 national technical experts, and over 300 people have been selected for various talent programs at all levels, including national teaching masters, experts with special government allowances of the State Council, national "May Day Labor Medal" winners, national young post experts, Chongqing skill masters, and Chongqing masters. 

The educational achievements are remarkable. The school has comprehensively advanced the "Great Ideological and Political Education" reform for all-round student development, implemented the "Outstanding Technical and Skilled Talent Cultivation Plan", the "Craftsman Workshop Support Plan", and the "Starlight Avenue Reward Plan". It has successively cultivated a large number of high-quality technical and skilled talents, such as Li Xiaosong, the champion of the WorldSkills Competition, and Yang Chengxing, one of the "Top Ten College Students of the Year" of the 11th National College Students' Annual Awards. These talents have provided strong support for the regional economic and social development. In the past five years, the employment rate of graduates has remained above 97%, and the proportion of graduates staying in Chongqing for employment and entrepreneurship has remained above 76%. Students have won 501 national-level skill competition awards (including 138 first prizes and gold medals), among which there is 1 gold medal in the WorldSkills Competition, 3 gold medals in the National Vocational Skills Competition, and 9 gold awards in the China International College Students' Innovation Competition. The school's personalized talent cultivation mechanism and employment typical experiences have been reported by CCTV's "Focus Interview" program on multiple occasions. 

The research and development services are strong. The university has established the "Shen Changxiang Cybersecurity Academician and Expert Workstation", the "Silicon Photonics Thousand Talents Expert Training and Technological Innovation Center", the "Chongqing High-Skilled Talent Development Research Center", and the "Chongqing Polytechnic e-Home" national-level mass innovation space. It also has two Ministry of Education application technology collaborative innovation centers, namely the "Robot Technology Application Collaborative Innovation Center" and the "Intelligent Manufacturing Application Technology Collaborative Innovation Center", as well as 13 provincial and ministerial-level scientific research platforms, including the "Chongqing University Engineering Center for Smart Operation and Maintenance Management of Urban Buildings". In the past five years, the university has been approved for 459 national and provincial-level vertical scientific research projects, including three National Natural Science Foundation projects, one National Social Science Foundation project, one National Education Science Planning project, and 14 Ministry of Education Humanities and Social Sciences projects. It has obtained 601 invention patents (including foreign ones), 12 Chongqing Science and Technology Progress Awards, and one Chongqing Patent Award for Excellence. 

The integration of industry and education has been deepened. We have explored a mechanism for the circulation and intercommunication of educational elements, innovation elements and industrial production elements in schools, forming an integrated management system of "industry-education consortium - industrial college - industry-education integration training base". We have taken the lead in establishing the first national-level industry-education consortium in the western vocational education base (one of 28 in the country, the only one in Chongqing), and a municipal-level industry-education consortium for the new generation of electronic information manufacturing. We have also established three industry-education integration communities, namely the national network space security, the national everything intelligent connection, and the national mobile communication. We have jointly built two provincial-level common technology service platforms with China Electronics Technology Group Corporation and Great Wall Motor. The new generation of electronic information industry-education integration base has been selected for the "14th Five-Year Plan" education power promotion project of the National Development and Reform Commission. We have built and operated seven industrial colleges such as Huawei ICT, among which two have been selected as modern industrial colleges in Chongqing. We have jointly built the world's first "Huawei Training Base" with Huawei and have won the "Best Cooperation Award of Huawei ICT College" for eight consecutive years. We are the only school in the country that has been awarded the title of "Industry-Education Integration Demonstration School" by Huawei. 

The openness and cooperation are extensive. Actively implementing the "Belt and Road Initiative", taking the construction of the Western Land-Sea New Corridor as the driving force, we are constantly exploring new paths for "vocational education going global". We have jointly built the "Chongqing Electrical College - Changan Automobile Kazakhstan Silk Road Automobile Training and Practice Base" with Changan Automobile of Chongqing and other parties, and established the "China-Indonesia Yangtze Digital and Intelligent Craftsmanship College" with the University of Telecommunications Indonesia, creating a brand for international cooperation in vocational education in Chongqing. We have established 8 overseas institutions and centers, including the China-Ukraine ICT College and the China-Thailand International College. We have taken the lead in establishing the China-Africa (Chongqing) Vocational Education Alliance to promote the international layout of vocational education in Chongqing. We have led the development of 99 national vocational standards for Tanzania, which have been incorporated into the national vocational education system of Tanzania. We have been awarded as the demonstration project unit of China-Thailand vocational education cooperation, the demonstration project unit of China-Germany industry-education integration, the outstanding unit of China-Africa education cooperation and cultural exchange, and the advanced collective for international students' work in Chongqing. 

The school shoulders the historical mission of leading the high-quality development of vocational education and supporting the construction of a modern industrial system, and has achieved a series of landmark construction achievements. In the past four rounds of national teaching achievement awards, it has won 3 first prizes and 7 second prizes of national teaching achievements. It has successively been awarded the "Outstanding School Award of Huang Yanpei Vocational Education", "National Model University for Graduates' Employment Experience", "National Model University for Innovation and Entrepreneurship Experience", "Chongqing Civilized Campus", "Chongqing Model University for Party Building Work", "Chongqing Pilot University for Comprehensive Reform of 'All-round Education'", and "Advanced Grassroots Party Organization of Chongqing Education System". In the 2025 GDI Reform Vitality Index Ranking of Chinese Higher Vocational Colleges, it ranked second in the country. In the 2025 Wu Shulian Ranking of Public Vocational Colleges in China and the 2025 Soft Science Ranking of Chinese Higher Vocational Colleges, it ranked third in the country. In the 2025 GDI Ranking of Vocational Undergraduate Colleges, it ranked fourth in the country.

Il a obtenu 585 brevets d'invention nationaux, 12 prix de progrès scientifique et technologique de Chongqing et 1 prix de brevet d'excellence de Chongqing.

En juin 2025, le Chongqing Electronic Information College comptait 1 226 enseignants à temps plein, dont 38 % détenaient des titres professionnels supérieurs, 87 % avaient une maîtrise ou plus et 91 % étaient des enseignants doublement qualifiés pour des cours professionnels.
