Linyi University is located in Linyi City of Shandong Province, a famous historical and cultural city, a city of trade and logistics, a city of waterfront ecology, a red tourism city, and a civilized city in China. It is a comprehensive university with distinctive characteristics and coordinated development of multiple disciplines including science, engineering, liberal arts, economics, management, medicine, law, art and teaching. It is one of the first batch of high-level discipline cultivation and construction units in Shandong Province, one of the first batch of application-oriented undergraduate university construction supporting colleges in Shandong Province, one of the first application-oriented talents cultivation characteristic universities in Shandong Province, one of the first batch of education informatization pilot units in Shandong Province, the national greening model unit, and the key construction university of the "integration of Industry and Education" project of the National Development and Reform Commission.

The university is the only comprehensive university in Yimeng old Revolutionary Base area. It was originally built in 1941 with the support of the First Branch university of the anti-Japanese Military and Political University of China. Later, it migrated and merged for many times, and its name changed several times, going through the development stages of Binhai Jianguo College, Linyi First Normal university, Linyi Teacher Training university, Linyi Education College, Linyi Teachers College and Linyi Normal College. In 2010, it was approved by the Ministry of Education and renamed Linyi University. In 2018, it was approved as an authorized institution for master's degree. Over the past 81 years, the university has been rooted in the fertile soil of Langya culture, inherited the red gene, carried forward the Yimeng spirit, accumulated and formed the university motto of "Clear meaning, sharp thinking, Perseverance, and Perseverance" and the university spirit of "practical". Linda has created the Linda spirit of "Having faith, bearing hardships, being innovative, daring to take responsibility, and being happy to contribute" and the Linda spirit of "unity and inclusiveness, honoring reality and being virtuous, working hard and being brave to be the first". The university covers an area of about 6000 mu, with branch universitys in Yishui and Fei County. The university buildings cover more than 1.14 million square meters. The total value of the state-owned assets is 4.672 billion yuan, among which the total value of the teaching and research equipment assets is 544 million yuan. It consists of 26 colleges, 5 university-level research institutes, 5 educational institutions and 5 directly affiliated institutions. In 2021, the university of Medicine of Linyi University was jointly established with Linyi Municipal People's Government, and the Rural Revitalization College of Linyi University, the first physical institution in Shandong Province, was established in Mengyin Daigu Town, Linyi City.

There are 1 national virtual simulation experimental teaching demonstration center and 3 experimental teaching demonstration centers in Shandong Province. Smart Logistics Industry College was selected as one of the first industrial colleges in Shandong Province. It has won 2 national teaching achievement Awards and 34 provincial teaching achievement awards. He has won 5 first prizes, 10 second prizes and 20 third prizes in provincial and above lecture competitions.
