Zunyi Medical University
Zunyi Medical University, founded in 1947, is the first medical undergraduate university founded by the Communist Party of China after the victory of the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression. It used to be named as Kwandong Medical university, Dalian University Medical university and Dalian Medical university. In 1969, in order to support the construction of "Third line", the university moved to Zunyi City, Guizhou Province and was renamed Zunyi Medical university. In 2018, it was renamed Zunyi Medical University. After more than 70 years of construction and development, it has become a provincial university with strong educational strength and distinctive educational characteristics, focusing on medical science and supported by multiple disciplines. The university consists of three campuses: Xinpu Campus, Dalian Road Campus and Zhuhai Campus. Covering an area of about 2515 mu, the university has more than 22,000 full-time students, 29 teaching departments and 5 directly affiliated hospitals. The university offers 32 undergraduate programs in 6 disciplines, including medicine, science, engineering, education, management and literature. The university began to enroll graduate students in 1955 and was one of the first units authorized to obtain master's degrees in China after the resumption of the national university entrance examination in 1981. Since 1999, it has cooperated with Chongqing Medical University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Suzhou University, Guizhou University and other universities to train doctoral students. Currently, there are 8 first-level master's degree programs, 43 second-level master's degree programs, and 4 professional master's degree programs, covering 4 disciplines including medicine, science, engineering, and law. In 2015, the School of International Education (Guizhou-ASEAN university of Medical Education) was established to actively develop the education of international students and increase its international influence. In 2018, zunyi Education and Health Cadre university was founded, and it joined the "Red Medical Union" and became the vice director unit. Pharmacology is a national key discipline. Clinical Medicine is the first medical discipline in Guizhou province to enter the top 1% of ESI in the world. In 2018, it won the second prize of National Higher Education Teaching Achievement Award; In 2019, he won the Special prize of Guizhou Province graduate Teaching Achievement. "Big Health medicine Group" has been selected as the first-class construction discipline group ⅰ in Guizhou Province, and clinical medicine and pharmacy are the first-class construction discipline in Guizhou Province. The university has been ranked among the top 200 universities in Mainland China in the 2020 Nature Index, ranking 187th. Clinical medicine, basic medicine and pharmacy rank among the top 50% of China's best disciplines in soft Science 2020. The univeristy is supported by the Vice President of The Chinese Pharmacological Society and the chairman of the Professional Committee of Anesthesiology of the Chinese Pharmacological Society. There are 1 Key laboratory of the Ministry of Education, 1 Joint Laboratory of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Education, 1 collaborative innovation center co-built by the province and ministry, 4 provincial key laboratories, 7 provincial clinical medical centers, engineering research centers and 2011 Collaborative Innovation Center of Guizhou Province. In the past five years, it has won 343 projects of National Natural Science Foundation of China, 7 projects of National Social Science Foundation of China, and 1 Second Prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award. 32 guizhou Provincial Science and Technology Awards, including 6 first prizes; He has won 7 prizes of excellent achievements in Philosophy and social sciences of Guizhou Province, including 1 second prize and 6 third prizes.

To implement the "Outline of National Medium and Long-Term Program for Education Reform and Development (2010-2020)” and “Plan of Studying in China” and coordinate with “One Belt and One Road” initiative and “China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week”, Zunyi Medical University established International Education School / Guizhou-ASEAN Medical Education School in September 2015.
International Education School / Guizhou-ASEAN Medical Education School is a faculty led by the President of ZMU and temporarily managed by the International Cooperation Department. International Education School is responsible for cooperating and coordinating with multiple functional departments and for the enrollment, teaching and management of international students, especially those from ASEAN countries. It aims to cultivate medical professionals and improve the local medical conditions for ASEAN countries.
International Education School includes international student office, international student recruitment office, teaching management office, international student daily management office and teaching Chinese as a second language (TCSL) office. International student recruitment office is responsible for the enrollment of language learning students, undergraduate students and postgraduate students. It also organizes the scholarship assessment work. Teaching management office is in charge of cooperating with the Teaching Affairs Department to deal with teaching affairs of international students. International student daily management office is responsible for the daily management of international students and the organization of international students’ recreational and sports activities. TCSL office is responsible for the teaching of TCSL and the construction of the subject.
International Education School has a professional and capable internationalized faculty. Teachers have overseas learning or working experience and are proficient in one or two languages, such as English, Thai, Lao, Vietnamese and Korean. The University has achieved better development in international education since 2015. The number and scale of the international students are increasingly expanded. The University is shining and has formed its own characteristics in international student education. We have established a cultivation system mainly based on medical education (Taught in Chinese) and supplemented by TCSL training program, covering language learning, undergraduate and postgraduate ones.
By the end of January 2018, students from Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand and Mongolia have enrolled in the University and 100 percent of the students have passed the HSK 4 Exam. 98 percent of the students have passed the HSK 5 Exam during their freshman year. In 2015, “Practical Medical Chinese” won the first group of international students brand courses of Guizhou province. During the last two years, the University has held the 9th and 10th China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week’s Chinese Speech and Essay Contest themed “Study in China, Dream in China”, sponsored by the Foreign Affairs Ministry, Education Ministry and People's Government of Guizhou Province. In 2017, international students of ZMU won the first group prize in the 10th China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week’s ASEAN Student Chinese Character Dictation Competition.
