The school was founded in 1996 and was approved by the People's Government of Henan Province and the Ministry of Education to be established as "Zhengzhou Electric Power Technology College" in 2006. The school is located at the intersection of the Central Plains Economic Zone, the core area of Zhengzhou City and Zhengdong New District. It is situated on the south bank of the Jialu River, adjacent to Zhengzhou Airport Economic Zone and Zhengzhou Green Expo Garden. With convenient transportation and a beautiful environment, it is a simple and ecological higher vocational college. The school covers an area of over 1,500 mu and currently has two campuses: Zhengzhou Shangdu Campus and Kaifeng Xiangfu Campus. The school is well-equipped with educational facilities and has excellent educational conditions. In the "Double High" construction of higher vocational education in our province, it was selected as a "Double High" project construction university in Henan Province in 2020.

At present, the school has established 11 teaching departments, including the School of Electric Power Engineering (including the Department of Controlled Engineering), the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, the School of Information Engineering, the School of Economics and Management, the School of Green and Low-Carbon Technology, the School of Vehicle Engineering, the School of Art and Media, the School of Marxism, the Department of Public Courses, the Practical Teaching Experiment and Training Center, and the School of Continuing Education. More than 50 enrollment majors with high social demand and good employment prospects have been set up, forming eight major professional clusters including new power, mechanical and electrical, intelligent manufacturing, new energy vehicles, information technology, finance and business, art and media, and green and low-carbon. In line with the eight major professional clusters, eight experimental and training centers have been established on campus, with a total of over 170 professional experimental and training rooms. Among them, the power experimental and Training Center has been recognized as a provincial high-skilled talent cultivation demonstration base, a provincial virtual simulation demonstration training base, and a municipal key laboratory. The Mechanical and Electrical Metalworking Training Center has been recognized as a provincial high-skilled talent cultivation demonstration base and a municipal key laboratory, among others.
