

Zhejiang Ocean University is a university jointly built by the Ministry of Natural Resources and the People's Government of Zhejiang Province, and is one of the key construction universities in Zhejiang Province. Founded in 1958, the school was named Zhoushan Aquatic College, renamed Zhejiang Aquatic College in 1975, merged with Zhoushan Normal College in 1998 to form Zhejiang Ocean University, after 2000, Zhoushan Health School, Zhejiang Aquatic School, Zhejiang Marine Aquatic Research Institute, Zhoushan Petrochemical School and Zhoushan Commercial School and other schools (units) have been merged (into), and in 2016 more current name. The construction and development of the school has always received the affectionate care and strong support from the Party and national leaders, and General Secretary Xi Jinping visited the school twice during his administration of Zhejiang Province to guide the work, giving full affirmation to the school's insistence on island schooling, requiring the school to continue to take the road of hard work, focus on local economic construction, and strive to make special features and contribute to the development of the province's marine economy.
The school has 2 campuses in New Town and Dinghai, with beautiful campus environment and pleasant scenery, which is an ideal place to study. The school covers a total area of 2608 mu (including 720 mu of sea area), with a building area of 534,000 square meters, 2.01 million paper books and over 490 million yuan of teaching and research instrument and equipment assets. There are 10 colleges, and scientific research institutions such as Zhejiang Institute of Marine Aquatic Research are built. There are 9 master's degree programs in marine science, aquatic science, ship and ocean engineering, petroleum and natural gas engineering, food science and engineering, agriculture and forestry economic management, mechanical engineering, mathematics and water conservancy engineering, and 8 professional master's degree programs in transportation, agriculture, education, tourism management, pharmacy, resources and environment, civil engineering and water conservancy, biology and medicine, and has the right to grant master's degree with equivalent academic ability. There are 48 undergraduate majors, including 6 national first-class undergraduate majors, 2 national specialties, 14 provincial first-class undergraduate majors, 9 provincial key majors, 7 provincial advantageous majors and 8 provincial specialties. There are 14,094 full-time students of all kinds and 1,409 teaching staff, including 998 full-time teachers. Among the full-time teachers, 518 have doctoral degrees, 494 have senior professional and technical positions, including 192 with senior technical positions. The university insists on taking social demand as the guide and devotes to cultivating comprehensive development of compound talents. The teaching achievements have won one national second-class prize, and in the past five years, six first-class and three second-class prizes for provincial teaching achievements. The university is a pilot university of the New Engineering Research and Practice Project of the Ministry of Education, the New Agricultural Research and Reform Practice Project of the Ministry of Education, and the National Excellent Agricultural and Forestry Talents Education and Training Program Reform Project, and has built a national experimental teaching demonstration center, a national off-campus practical education base for college students, a field practice base of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (jointly built), and the first island field survival teaching experiment base in China, which is the It is the only national demonstration base for training innovative talents (jointly constructed). Focusing on the national strategic needs and local economic and social development, the university has been improving the scientific research innovation system and striving to enhance the level of scientific research and innovation capacity. The scientific research achievements have won the first, second and third prizes of the National Science and Technology Progress Award and 13 prizes of the National Science Conference.
