Xinyang Normal University
Xinyang Normal University, or XYNU for short, is the first undergraduate university founded in Henan Province after the reform and opening up. It is one of the two key normal universities in Henan Province and a shining name card of higher education in Dabie Mountain area. It is praised as "the cradle of teachers" by Fei Xiaotong, a famous social activist and educator, and "the most beautiful university in Henan Province", "the university in the garden" and "a good university to study freely in the clear waters and green mountains".
The university was founded in 1975 as Xinyang Branch of Kaifeng Normal University (now Henan University). In 1978, it was approved by The State Council as an undergraduate institution and changed to its current name. In 1998, it was approved by the Academic Degrees Committee of The State Council as an authorized unit for master's degrees.
The university has more than 40 years of undergraduate education and 20 years of graduate education history and experience. There are 23,876 full-time students in the university, including 1690 graduate students. The School consists of the School of Marxism, the School of Law and Sociology, the School of Arts, the School of Mathematics and Statistics, the School of Physics and Electronic Engineering, the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, the School of Foreign Languages, the School of Life Science, the School of Tea and Food Science and Technology, the School of Geographic Science, the School of Architecture and Civil Engineering, the School of Computer and Information Technology (Software), the School of Tourism, the School of Business, the School of Physical Education School of Science, School of Fine Arts and Design, School of Music and Dance, School of History and Culture, School of Communication, School of International Education, School of Teacher Education, School of Medicine, School of Continuing Education. It has 83 undergraduate specialties, 16 first-level disciplines authorized for master's degrees, and 14 categories authorized for master's degrees. It jointly trains doctoral students with Minnan Normal University, Chinese Academy of Forestry and other institutions.
School conditions: There are two campuses in Tanshan and Huaihe, covering an area of more than 2500 mu, with a total construction area of more than 900,000 square meters. The library has 2.83 million copies of paper books, 2.27 million copies of electronic books, 58 digital resource databases, 152 accessible resource databases and 4,652 kinds of periodicals in Chinese and foreign languages.
