About the University

Founded in 1958, Xinjiang Art Institute is located in Urumqi, the capital of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, which is known as "the hometown of singing and dancing" and "the hometown of Danqing". It is one of the eight comprehensive art colleges in China and the only comprehensive art college in Northwest China. The institute has three campuses, namely Tuanjie Road East Campus, West Campus and Jinqiao Road Jinqiao Campus, covering an area of 1000 mu. There are 12 teaching units: Conservatory of Music, Dance Academy, Academy of Fine Arts, institute of Design, institute of Calligraphy, institute of Media, institute of Drama, Film and Television, institute of Culture and Art, institute of Marxism, Department of Public Foundation, institute of Adult (Continuing) Education and Secondary Art institute affiliated to it. It covers postgraduate, undergraduate, junior college and technical secondary institute, and has formed a multi-form and multi-level institute-running pattern including full-time education, adult continuing education and distance education, with 6,400 full-time students.

At present, the institute is a master's degree authorization unit, with four first-level discipline master's authorization points under the art category, six professional master's authorization points in 19 directions in research fields and two key disciplines in the autonomous region.

There are 30 undergraduate majors in the institute, including 3 national-level first-class specialty construction sites, 4 autonomous-level first-class specialty construction sites, 1 autonomous-level first-class course and 3 autonomous-level experimental teaching demonstration centers.

The institute has a creative research institute for cultural development in Xinjiang, with 8 creative research centers including music, dance, art, design, calligraphy, media, drama, film and television, culture and art, 4 research institutes including ideological and political education research center, intangible cultural heritage inheritance center, art research institute and Xinjiang Calligraphy Education Research Institute, 2 art design halls, and a large number of off-campus practice bases. Since its establishment, it has trained tens of thousands of cultural and artistic talents for the country.

At present, the institute has 713 faculty members, including 502 full-time teachers, 143 teachers with senior titles such as professors and associate professors, 134 master's tutors, 23 experts who enjoy special allowances from the State Council, outstanding experts with outstanding contributions from the autonomous region, famous teachers of teaching, talents of Tianshan Mountain, famous cultural artists and "four batches" talents, and Tianchi distinguished professor. Since the "Thirteenth Five-Year Plan", the institute has undertaken more than 300 scientific research projects at all levels, published monographs and 668 academic papers, and won 8 outstanding achievements in philosophy and social sciences in the autonomous region. Journal of Xinjiang Art Institute was rated as "Excellent Social Science Journal of National Colleges and Universities", and "Silk Road Art Research" was selected as "Characteristic Column of Social Science Journal of National Colleges and Universities", showing a good development trend in scientific research.

The institute actively serves the development of cultural and artistic undertakings in the country and autonomous region, and has successively participated in major performances in the country and autonomous region, such as the opening ceremony of Beijing Olympic Games, the 13th National Winter Games, Xinjiang International Dance Festival, the opening ceremony of China Pavilion of Astana World Expo, and the celebration of the 70th anniversary of National Day.
