XIAMEN OCEAN VOCATIONAL COLLEGE was founded in 1920 by Mr. Chen Jiageng, a famous patriotic Chinese leader, and has gone through such stages as the Aquatic Division of Jimei School, Jimei Senior Aquatic and Marine School, Jimei Aquatic College and Fujian Jimei Aquatic School (a national key secondary school), which is one of the earliest cradles of training aquatic and marine technical talents in China. It is a special school of national defense education of the Ministry of Education, a civilized campus in Fujian Province, an outstanding school of Huang Yanpei Vocational Education Award in Fujian Province, a model higher vocational institution in Fujian Province, a model modern vocational institution in Fujian Province, a model institution of innovation and entrepreneurship creation education in Fujian Province, a relying unit of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and a selected unit of "high-level vocational institutions and professional construction plan in Fujian Province It has been selected as a project construction unit of "Fujian High-level Vocational Institution and Professional Construction Plan".
During its 100 years of operation, the school has taken "sincerity and perseverance" as its motto, carried forward the spirit of Jiageng, and cultivated a large number of high-quality technical and skilled talents for the development of the country and Fujian's marine industry, and its outstanding alumni have spread all over the country and the world, enjoying a wide reputation at home and abroad. Comrade Xi Jinping, then governor of Fujian Province, wrote an inscription for the 80th anniversary of the school, "Spring winds make rain, peach and plum fill the garden", placing high hopes on the construction and development of the school. Wan Exiang, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, and other national, ministerial and provincial leaders have visited the school and fully affirmed the effectiveness of the school's construction. In the 2022 alumni association Aishen national ranking of higher education institutions, the school ranked 14th in the third category (industry category) of higher education institutions, ranked first in Fujian Province.
The school has two campuses in Siming and Xiang'an, covering an area of 710 mu and a total planning area of more than 1,000 mu. There are nine secondary colleges, including the School of Navigation, the School of Marine Biology, the School of Marine Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, the School of Information Engineering, the School of International Trade and Commerce, the School of Marine Culture and Tourism, the School of Public Education, the School of Marxism and the School of Continuing Education, offering 38 courses in maritime technology, port and shipping management, aquaculture, international There are 38 majors such as Marine Technology, Port and Shipping Management, Aquaculture and International Cruise Ship Management. There are 12,000 students in school and more than 20,000 non-academic education students every year. We have a provincial teaching team "Aquaculture Technology Professional Team", one national outstanding teacher, two provincial outstanding teachers, one provincial teaching master, 13 provincial professional leaders, and seven teaching masters of agricultural vocational education. There are 166 on-campus training rooms and various simulation training rooms such as large ship maneuvering simulator, and 274 off-campus internship training bases. The school has always been adhering to the tradition of running schools in the industry, insisting on the orientation of serving the ocean and the local area, and comprehensively connecting with the marine industry chain in Fujian Province to build a "big ocean" special professional system. There are seven key professional groups such as marine biotechnology, marine engineering technology, port logistics, marine information technology, international trade, engineering technology and coastal tourism. In recent years, it has presided over the construction of two national professional teaching resource libraries for vocational education, such as aquaculture technology and intelligent terminal technology; it has added one cooperative innovation center for applied technology recognized by the Ministry of Education, two provincial cooperative innovation centers for applied technology, and one municipal key laboratory; it has built a "comprehensive skills training base for marine scientific research safety" and "marine biological industry training base" with the Third Institute of Oceanography of the Ministry of Natural Resources. "It has won two special awards and four second-class awards for teaching achievements in vocational education in Fujian Province. In 2021-2022 "Golden Pingguo" comprehensive strength of higher vocational ranking, the school's fisheries majors ranked first in the country; in the professional ranking, aquaculture technology and aquatic science and technology majors ranked first in the country, port and shipping management, ship inspection, container transport management, port logistics management, environmental assessment and consulting services, and commercial inspection technology ranked fifth in the country.
The school focuses closely on the training target of high-quality technical and skilled talents, actively carries out the "supply-side" reform of talents, promotes school-enterprise cooperative education, and carries out "modern apprenticeship", "dual system", "A+ Eagle", "A+" and "A+". The school has always adhered to the school philosophy of "sea and river, virtue and craftsmanship, industry-education integration, and culture of people", and made every effort to promote the deep integration of industry-education school mode of "close to industry and integrated into enterprises". The Fujian Marine Vocational Education Group, Fujian Provincial Marine Vocational Education Steering Committee and Xiang'an District School-Enterprise Cooperation Union have been established. The university vigorously implements the project of upgrading the level of international education, implements the professional certification of international crew system which is in line with the standard of the International Maritime Organization and the professional certification of IEET Sydney Agreement, and promotes the internationalization of talent training. More than 40 famous experts and professors from home and abroad have been employed as part-time or special professors, including academicians Edward McBean and Xiao Huining from Canada, and international students of Chinese descent have been recruited from countries along the Belt and Road. We have been approved as "Xiamen BRICS New Industrial Capacity Enhancement Training Base", and the Smart Fishery Application Technology Talent Training Project has been approved by the Ministry of Education of China as an education aid project. Strategic cooperation agreements have been signed with Taiwan Ocean University, Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology, Taipei University of Marine Science and Technology and other marine-related universities in Taiwan to conduct educational and academic exchanges such as mutual visits of teachers and students.
