

Xi'an Aeronautical Polytechnic Institute is a full-time public higher vocational college approved by the Ministry of Education for higher education enrollment, directly under the Shaanxi Provincial Department of Education. The institution is recognized as a "National Model Higher Vocational College" and a "National High-Quality Higher Vocational College." In 2025, it successfully completed the first round of national "High-Level Vocational College with Chinese Characteristics" construction and was selected for the second round of the "Double High Plan." It has been honored as a "National Advanced Institution in Vocational Education," "National Advanced Institution in Moral Education," "Huang Yanpei Outstanding Vocational Education School," "National Defense Education Characteristic School," and "Top 50 Vocational Colleges in Practical Training Management." Designated by the Ministry of National Defense and the Ministry of Education as the sole military-oriented training institution for the Air Force, Army, Navy, and Rocket Force in Shaanxi, it was also selected by the Ministry of Education for the "High-End Skilled and Applied Talent Joint Training Hundred-Thousand-Thousand Exchange Program" as a Chinese partner institution. In 2023, the college was included in the first batch of national municipal-level industry-education alliances, designated by the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Education as a project unit for industry-education integration, recognized as a pilot institution for modern apprenticeship systems, and selected by Shaanxi Province as a high-quality institution for project construction, a first-class higher vocational college in Shaanxi, and a high-level vocational college in the top tier of Shaanxi. In the 2025 ShanghaiRanking China Vocational College Rankings, it ranked 14th among all vocational colleges nationwide and 6th in the engineering category.

The school was founded in 1958 as the "Yanliang No. 1 Aviation Industrial Worker Technical School" under the Third Ministry of Machine Building, later becoming the 22nd Air Force Maintenance Factory (later renamed Factory 5717), successively affiliated with the Air Force of the Lanzhou Military Region and the Factory Management Department of the Air Force Aviation Engineering Department. In 1979, it resumed operations and was renamed the Third Technical School of the Air Force Aviation Engineering Department. In 1985, it transitioned into a full-time secondary specialized school, and in 1994, it was renamed the Xi'an Aviation Engineering School of the Air Force, successively affiliated with the Air Force Aviation Engineering Department and the Technical Department of the Air Force Equipment Department. In 2001, it was transferred from the Air Force to the management of the Shaanxi Provincial People's Government, upgraded to a junior college, and renamed Xi'an Aviation Vocational and Technical College, now under the jurisdiction of the Shaanxi Provincial Department of Education.
