About the University

Western Yunnan Universities of Applied Sciences (hereinafter referred to as "Western Yunnan University") is the first batch of Universities of Applied Sciences in China approved by the Ministry of Education in April 2015. In May 2017, the school was formally established with the approval of the Ministry of Education. Western Yunnan University, as a new type of ordinary public undergraduate university, mainly trains applied high-level technical and technical talents urgently needed for regional economic and social development.

Western Yunnan University fully draws lessons from the German and Swiss Universities of Applied Sciences models, adopts the open school-running framework of its headquarters plus several characteristic colleges and applied technology research institutes (1+N+M), and the integrated school-running model of "politics, industry, learning, research and application". According to the principle of "hierarchical governance, integration of industry and education, demand-driven, cooperative school-running, open connection and co-construction of provinces and departments", it has developed from the economic and social development of western Yunnan. Build a training plan and curriculum system based on post professional ability, and implement the "double certificate" system of academic degree certificate and professional qualification certificate.

The headquarters of Yunnan West University is located in Dali City, Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province, with a planned land area of 329 mu and a total construction area of about 188,000 square meters. The headquarters has built three directly affiliated colleges: School of Management, School of Earth Science and Engineering and School of Health Science and Technology. The first batch of Dai Medicine College (located in Jinghong City, Xishuangbanna Prefecture), Pu 'er Tea College (located in Simao District, Pu 'er City) and Jewelry College (located in Tengchong City, Baoshan City) were built. Set up Nujiang College and Diqing College as two schools-land cooperation colleges; Cooperate with Lijiang City and lincang for undergraduate and junior college education. The headquarters has set up the West Yunnan Financial Research Institute, the West Yunnan Vocational Education Research Center, the Applied Higher Education Research Institute and the Erhai Research Institute. The characteristic colleges have set up applied technology research institutes (centers) related to majors and local industries respectively, and the "1+N+M" open school-running framework has taken initial shape.

West Yunnan University started from three undergraduate majors, and by September 2021, there were 29 undergraduate majors, 9 undergraduate majors upgraded to undergraduate majors, 2 undergraduate majors in higher vocational colleges and 15 specialized majors in higher vocational colleges, covering seven disciplines, namely, engineering, science, education, agriculture, medicine, management and art, and facing Yunnan Province, Fujian, Guizhou, Chongqing, Sichuan, Guangxi, Guangdong and Henan. In June 2020, 533 first-time students graduated.

Yunnan West University has fully grafted the high-quality educational resources of the "985" and "211" key universities directly under the Ministry of Education, and now it has obtained all-round education from Beijing Normal University, Beijing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Northeast Normal University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Zhejiang University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, China University of Geosciences (Wuhan), Zhongnan University of Economics and Law, Sun Yat-sen University, South China University of Technology, Yunnan University, Kunming University of Science and Technology, Yunnan Agricultural University, Dali University and many other universities. Cooperate with Pu 'er Tea Group, Dongfang Jinyu, Yunnan Branch of Institute of Medicinal Plants, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and many other scientific research institutes and industry enterprises to run schools, and realize the three-dimensional training of high-level technical and technical talents.

Facing the future, General Dianxi will adhere to the principle of "establishing a college, revitalizing an industry, benefiting one party's people and inheriting one party's culture", and devote himself to cultivating high-level technical and technical talents with good theoretical knowledge, humanistic quality and dedication who serve the transformation and upgrading of industries with regional characteristics and advantages and are urgently needed in the development of production, management and service, and strive to build the school into one that leads the whole province and even the west with international competitiveness.

West Yunnan University of Applied Sciences is a full-time public undergraduate college jointly established by the Ministry of Education and the People's Government of Yunnan Province, organized by the People's Government of Yunnan Province, and in charge of the Department of Education of Yunnan Province. It is the first batch of applications directly established by the Ministry of Education. The University of Technology is one of the six precision assistance projects of the Ministry of Education in the western Yunnan area and a member unit of the Yunnan Society of Surveying, Mapping and Geographic Information.
