

The predecessor of Wenshan University was the National Southwest Normal School, which moved south from Zhaotong, Yunnan to Wenshan in February 1947. In April 1984, Wenshan Teachers College was established with the approval of the Yunnan Provincial People’s Government. It was renamed Wenshan Teachers College in 1992. In April 2009, the Ministry of Education approved the upgrade to a full-time general undergraduate college. In 2018, it passed the qualification evaluation of the undergraduate teaching work of the Ministry of Education. In 2019, it will become a demonstration school for the training of applied undergraduate talents in Yunnan Province.
At present, the University covers an area of 877.25 mu, with a school building area of 257,574 square meters, a library of 883,000 paper books, 1 million e-books, a total fixed asset value of 586 million yuan, and a total equipment value of 159.3038 million yuan; there are in-service faculty and staff 634 people, including 463 full-time teachers, 197 teachers with associate titles or above (41 professors and researchers, including 2 second-level professors; 156 associate professors and associate researchers), 404 teachers with master's degree or above, and more than 10 teachers He was successively employed as master tutor by Yunnan Normal University, Kunming University of Science and Technology, and Yunnan Agricultural University. The school has three academic research institutions: Wenshan Sanqi Research Institute, Wenshan Prefecture Biological Resources Development and Research Center, Wenshan Ethnic Culture Inheritance and Innovation Research Center, and the establishment of "Sanqi Research Base of Institute of Chinese Materia Medica, China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences" and "Sanqi, Yunnan Province" There are 10 provincial and departmental research centers, laboratories and expert workstations including Engineering Technology Research Center, "Yunnan Provincial Postdoctoral Research Workstation". The comprehensive academic journal "Journal of Wenshan College" is publicly issued at home and abroad. The school has 9 secondary colleges, namely Teacher Education College, Sanqi College of Medicine, Humanities and Media College, Art and Design College, Economics and Management College, Artificial Intelligence College, Metallurgy and Environment College, Marxism College, and Higher Vocational and Technical College. 62 undergraduate and junior college majors (49 undergraduates and 13 junior colleges). The school recruits students from 22 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) across the country, and currently has 12,374 full-time students (10,682 undergraduates and 1,692 college students).
