Weinan Vocational & Technical College was established in 2004 with the approval of the People's Government of Shaanxi Province and the recordation by the Ministry of Education. It was formed by the merger of four schools, namely the former Shaanxi Provincial School of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Shaanxi Provincial Dali Normal School, Shaanxi Provincial Pucheng Normal School, and Shaanxi Provincial Weinan Agricultural School. It is the only full-time public ordinary higher education institution directly under the Weinan Municipal People's Government. Its educational history can be traced back to the "Tongzhou Industrial Middle School" in 1905. The college is a "National Civilized Unit", "National High-Quality Vocational College Construction Unit", "the Second Batch of National First-Aid Education Pilot Schools", "Ministry of Education Modern Apprenticeship Pilot Unit", "Ministry of Education 'One-Stop' Student Community Comprehensive Management Model Construction Autonomous Pilot Unit", "Shaanxi Education Reform and Innovation Model School", "the First Batch of National '1+X' Certificate System Pilot Colleges", "Shaanxi Provincial Demonstrative Higher Vocational Colleges", and "Shaanxi Provincial Double-High Professional Group Construction Unit". It is also the leading unit of the Weinan Vocational Education Group.

After more than 100 years of development, the college has trained over 200,000 technical and skilled talents for the society, who are widely distributed in various industries such as education, health, agriculture, forestry, and animal husbandry, making important contributions to the national economic and social development. Among them, there are many distinguished alumni, such as Kou Xia, a famous statesman and calligrapher; Han Qide, Vice Chairman of the 12th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and President of the China Association for Science and Technology; Wang Shuangxi, former Vice Governor of Shaanxi Province; Zhang Kejian, former Director of the Shaanxi Provincial Department of Education; and Chen Wuyu, former President of Xi'an Jiaotong University.

The 4 million-character monograph "Abstracts of Chinese Medicine Research Literature" compiled by Liu Shoushan, a researcher of the college, pioneered modern Chinese medicine research. It is hailed as "another comprehensive Chinese medicine literature masterpiece after 'Compendium of Materia Medica'" and won the National Science Conference Award and the First Prize of Scientific and Technological Achievements of the People's Government of Shaanxi Province in 1978.

The college is located in Weinan City, the eastern gateway of Shaanxi Province. It is adjacent to Huashan Mountain in the east, faces Xi'an in the west, is backed by the Weihe River in the north, and overlooks the Qinling Mountains in the south, with beautiful scenery, convenient transportation, and a profound historical and cultural heritage. The college has two campuses, Gaoxin and Chaoyang, covering an area of 880 mu (about 586,666.7 square meters) with a building area of 369,400 square meters. There are more than 13,800 full-time three-year vocational college students.

Currently, there are 853 faculty members, including 213 professors and associate professors, 395 doctors and masters, and 241 dual-qualified teachers. It has hired 166 part-time teachers and 59 industry mentors, as well as 27 talents with provincial and municipal titles such as Shaanxi Provincial Science and Technology New Stars and provincial-level teaching masters. The college has a collection of 1.015 million books, 3,371 digital terminals, and 267 on-campus laboratories and training rooms. It also has 4 vocational education training bases supported by the central finance, 2 national production-oriented training bases co-built by schools and enterprises, 2 provincial-level demonstration training bases, 6 training bases co-built by schools and enterprises, 2 provincial-level open regional industry-education integration practice centers, and 309 off-campus training bases.

Closely focusing on the needs of economic and social development, the college takes employment as the orientation and takes the path of integrating industry and education. It has 10 teaching units, offering 47 three-year vocational majors and 7 five-year vocational majors, involving 14 professional categories and 30 professional subcategories, including medicine and health, public management and services, food, medicine and grain, education and sports, agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fishery, biology and chemical engineering, finance and commerce, tourism, culture and art, transportation, electronics and information, equipment manufacturing, resources, environment and safety, and civil engineering and construction. It has formed a professional pattern with medicine and education majors as the mainstay, finance and commerce, and equipment manufacturing majors as the two wings, and construction, agriculture and forestry majors as extensions, basically establishing a main professional system adapting to regional economic and social development.

The college adheres to the socialist orientation in running schools, fully implements the Party's educational policy, and centers on the college's "12116" overall work deployment (i.e., taking political construction as the guide, taking the "Double-High Plan" and "joint creation of civilized campuses" as the goals, taking 11 planning tasks and key projects as the starting points, and adhering to the principles of upholding Party leadership, running the school according to law, student-oriented, reform and innovation, integration of industry and education, and bottom-line thinking). It insists on taking morality education as the fundamental task, integrating ideological and political work into the entire process of education and teaching, and promoting full-staff education, whole-process education, and all-round education. It has comprehensively strengthened Party building, with 2 grass-roots Party organizations passing the acceptance of the third batch of provincial university Party building benchmark colleges and departments and model branches. One branch was selected as a cultivation and creation unit of the "National Model Branch of Party Building Work" and the "Strong Country Action" special action team of the "Double Leaders" teacher Party branch secretaries in provincial universities, and one branch was selected as a cultivation and creation unit of the fourth batch of provincial university Party building model branches.

The college has made efforts to promote the reform and innovation of ideological and political theory courses, established the Weinan New Era Integrated Construction Work Center for Ideological and Political Theory Courses in Secondary and Higher Vocational Schools, and explored an integrated construction mechanism. It actively cultivates and practices core socialist values, gives full play to the advantages of Weinan's local school history and red resources, and continuously consolidates and develops a strong position for cultivating talents for the Party and the country.
