University of South China

Founded in 1958, University of South China is a state-owned comprehensive university. The university started education for international students in 2010. In 2021, the university passed the Higher Education Quality Certification for International Students conducted by the Ministry of Education in P. R. China. The university is shortlisted among the top 100 in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings for many times.The disciplines of Clinical Medicine, Chemistry, Engineering and Pharmacology & Toxicology of the university are ranked in the top 1% of ESI worldwide.

As one of the first-tier universities on the Mainland, P.R. China, USC covers academic research and education in 9 disciplines, namely, Engineering, Medicine, Management, Sciences, Economics, Philosophy, Law, Literature and Art. USC comprises 25 colleges and schools, 8 affiliated hospitals and 4 teaching hospitals. The university offers 67 bachelor programs, 26 master programs and 5 doctorate programs in first-level disciplines to students from all over the world. It also offers two special training programs --＂Outstanding Engineers＂ and ＂Outstanding Doctors＂-- financed by the Ministry of Education. Currently, there are more than 34000 full-time undergraduates, 6600 postgraduates and doctoral students,around 500 international students pursuing their studies on the campus.

The university is featured with its disciplinary "Nuclear characteristics, medical brands, and environmental protection". The university combines nuclear science with the medicine, and works to promote the innovation of nuclear medicine.It has been approved as the National Training Base for innovative Talents of Nuclear Medicine Combination, the advantageous characteristic discipline group of "Medical + nuclear" precision prevention and control of major diseases in Hunan Province, and the Engineering Research Center of Radiopharmaceutical Development in Hunan Province.The establishment of the national virtual Center for Nuclear science and medicine, the national virtual Teaching and Research section, and the national "5G+ Clinical competence interactive teaching ecosystem" will further promote the innovative development of the integration of nuclear medicine.

There are 4015 faculty members including clinical teachers, among whom 2,706 with Senior professional or equivalent titles, and 1120 with doctoral degrees. The university library has a collection of more than 2.07million paper books, 2400 Chinese and foreign periodicals, and more than 30 databases including WOS, IEL,CNKI and Super Magnitude.

The university is located in the historic and cultural city of Hengyang, Hunan Province.It is the birthplace of Cai Lun, the inventor of papermaking (one of the four great inventions in China ), and Wang Fuzhi (Wang Chuanshan), a philosopher known as Oriental Hegel.The city is close to Hong Kong and Macao. It is considered as a bridge between the east and the west, the coastal and the inland. Shigu (Stone Drum) Academy, one of the 4 Chinese ancient academies, and Nanyue Hengshan Mountain, are the best representation of its humanitarian and natural landscapes.Hengyang boasts an efficient network of transportation, which mainly consists of road, rail, water, and aviation. 2 National highways, 2 national main railways , and 1 Nanyue International Airport intersect or meet in this city.Nanyue International Airport has already operated direct flights to Beijing, Shanghai, Qingdao, Chengdu, Xian, Chongqing, Kunming, Xiamen, Haikou, Sanya and other main cities of China.

University of South China (hereafter USC or the University), is a comprehensive public university with a history of more than 60 years, co-funded by the People’s Government of Hunan Province and Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense, and China National Nuclear Corporation respectively. The University was merged in 2000 by Hengyang Medical College, founded in 1958 and administrated by Hunan Province, Central South Institute of Technology, in 1959, and the 6th Nuclear Institute, in 1962, both administrated by the former Ministry of Nuclear Industry.

One of the yiben, or first tier universities on the Mainland, China, USC enrolls students from the Mainland, Hongkong, Macao, Taiwan and other parts of the world. 

The University is home to over 2,500 faculty members, and over 37,000 full-time students, of whom 33,000 are undergraduates and 4000, master or doctor degree candidates.

Situated in Hengyang, a historical and cultural city in the central China province of Hunan, with a total area of 200 hectares, USC comprises 21 colleges and schools, 6 affiliated hospitals and 21 teaching hospitals.

USC is a chartered training base for Reserve Naval Officers of the People’s Liberation Army.
