About the University

Tibet University (Tibet University for short) is a comprehensive University under the jurisdiction of Tibet Autonomous Region. It is a University jointly established by the Ministry of Education and the People's Government of Tibet Autonomous Region, a key University in the National "Project 211" and a University with "Double First-class" disciplines. Countries "Midwestern university foundation ability construction engineering" support universities, state "excellent doctor education training plan", "outstanding talent education of agriculture and forestry cultivation plan" reform pilot colleges and universities, "national college students' innovative experiment plan", "national college students' innovative entrepreneurial training plan" project school, deepening the reform of creative education demonstration of colleges and universities across the country.

The university's history can be traced back to the Tibetan Language Cadre Training course in 1951, and it has gone through the stages of the Tibet Military Region Cadre School, The Tibet Local Cadre School, the Tibet Administrative Cadre School, the Tibet Normal School and the Tibet Normal College. In June 1985, Tibet University was established. In September 2004, it was jointly established by the People's Government of Tibet Autonomous Region and the Ministry of Education. In May 2013, it was included in the central and western Higher education revitalization Plan. In July 2013, it was approved to become a doctoral degree awarding unit. In September 2017, it was listed as one of the national universities with world-class discipline construction. In February 2018, it was jointly established by the Ministry of Education and the People's Government of Tibet Autonomous Region.
