Tianjin Vocational Institute was founded in 1978 and is one of the earliest institutions to hold higher vocational education in China, and is one of the first 28 "National Model Higher Vocational Colleges and Universities" and national high-quality higher vocational colleges and universities. At present, the university has a "one campus, two districts" structure, with 10 colleges and 3 teaching departments under the main campus and Haiheyuan campus. It has 7 undergraduate programs jointly with Tianjin University of Science and Technology, Tianjin University of Commerce, Tianjin University of Vocational and Technical Education and Tianjin University of Technology to cultivate application-oriented and high-end skilled talents. There are 17,000 students in school, including more than 16,000 specialists and 1,000 application-oriented undergraduates.

The university insists on teaching and learning. The university has won 2 first-class and 3 second-class awards for national teaching achievements, and one special award and 10 first-class awards for municipal teaching achievements. Optometry and packaging engineering technology have been selected as the national double-high professional group construction, and there are 10 key construction majors supported by the central government, 4 training construction projects supported by the central government, and 25 key construction majors supported by the municipal government; the university has taken the lead in building the national professional teaching resource library for three majors: optometry, hotel management, and packaging technology and design. Deepen the integration of industry and education. Combining with the 1+3+4 industrial structure of Tianjin, we have strengthened cooperation with the world's top 500 enterprises and leading enterprises in the industry, explored the establishment of eight industrial colleges such as 360 Industrial College, four secondary colleges with mixed ownership such as Jin Cuisine College, four on-campus enterprise training centers such as Lincoln (China) Technical Training Center, and led the establishment of six vocational education groups such as Optometry and Packaging. Four models of industry-education integration and school-enterprise cooperation have been formed, including industrial colleges, mixed ownership secondary colleges, on-campus enterprise training centers and vocational education groups. Strengthen cooperation with Binhai New Area, set up a technical skills training alliance in Binhai New Area, and set up a technical training school to serve the construction of the "twin cities" of Tianjin and Binhai. Built a high-level additive manufacturing technology application center, Tianjin packaging production line technology engineering center and other four science and technology research and development platform. During the 13th Five-Year Plan period, 95 vertical research projects were established at provincial and ministerial levels, 203 horizontal projects were undertaken, a total of 60.49 million RMB was introduced for R&D of various technologies, and 1,165 patents were granted (including 74 invention patents).

Innovative "internal training and external attraction, combination of professional and part-time" teacher team construction mode, the proportion of "dual-teacher" teachers among professional teachers reached 84%. Service national strategy. Take the lead in establishing the Tianjin-Xiong Vocational Education Development Alliance and the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Double High Construction Alliance. Built the "Tianjin Vocational University Xiongan New Area Training Base" and "Xiong County Training Center", and formulated a five-year plan for the development of high-quality vocational education in Xiongan New Area. Systematically assisted in the construction of Hotan Vocational and Technical College and prepared a vocational education park construction plan for Hotan area; undertook to help vocational education in Honghe Prefecture in western Yunnan Province and Weixian County in Hebei Province by the Ministry of Education and established the "Tianjin Vocational University Weixian Branch"; twinned with Wuwei Vocational College and jointly built the "Tianjin Vocational University (West) Vocational Education Teacher Training Center". The university has also twinned with Wuwei Vocational College to establish the "Tianjin Vocational University (West) Vocational Education Teacher Training Base"; and continued to carry out twinning work to help five difficult villages in Tianjin. Awarded "National Advanced Collective in Poverty Alleviation" and "Advanced Individual in Poverty Alleviation of National Vocational Colleges and Universities Collaborative Union for Precise Poverty Alleviation".

Deepened international exchange. Inaugurated the Luban Workshop in Durban University of Technology in South Africa, promoted the construction of Luban Workshop in Gabon, and presided over the establishment of the Luban Workshop Construction Alliance; established the "3D Printing Technology Application R&D Center" with Vanier College in Montreal, Canada. The university has established inter-university relations with institutions in the United States, France, Britain, Australia, Russia, Hong Kong and Taiwan to provide cooperative education, teacher training and international student education.

Insisting on moral education. While insisting on the teaching of Civic and Political Science courses, the university continues to deepen the education of socialist core values and forms a quality education system for students to cultivate the six core qualities of "learning to learn, healthy life, humanistic heritage, scientific spirit, responsibility, practice and innovation"; the university has been awarded the national model center for teaching and research in Civic and Political Science, and two courses have been awarded the national model center for teaching and research in Civic and Political Science. The university has been awarded the National Curriculum Civics Teaching and Research Demonstration Center, two courses have been awarded the National Curriculum Civics Demonstration Course, and one Tianjin Curriculum Civics Excellence Course and six Demonstration Courses. The university attaches great importance to the cultivation of students' innovation and entrepreneurship ability, and students won two gold medals and one silver medal in the China "Internet+" Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition. In the past three years, students won the second prize at the national level and the special prize in Tianjin in the "Challenge Cup" and "Rainbow Life" competitions, and won 56 national prizes and 424 provincial and ministerial prizes in various competitions such as vocational skills and academic competitions.
