Suzhou University of Science and Technology (SUSTT) was formed by the merger of the former Suzhou Urban Construction And Environmental Protection College and the former Suzhou Railway Normal College. It is a full-time university with engineering as its main focus and coordinated development of engineering, science, humanities, management and art. It is an excellent university in the undergraduate teaching evaluation by the Ministry of Education. In 2017, it became a university jointly built by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development and Jiangsu Province, and was approved as a construction unit for granting doctoral degrees in Jiangsu Province in the same year.

The university has three campuses: Shihu, Jiangfeng and Tianping. The main campus, Shihu, is adjacent to Shihu River and has shangfang Mountain, with beautiful environment and landscape. The campus covers an area of 2300 mu, and currently has nearly 20,000 undergraduate students,3,200 graduate students and 100 international graduate students.

The university has 17 master's degree authorized first-level disciplines and 14 professional master's degree authorized categories. The university now has 21 scientific research platforms at or above the provincial level, including the National and local Joint Engineering Research Center, the Key Laboratory of Jiangsu Province, and the Key research base of Philosophy and Social Sciences of Jiangsu Universities.
