Sichuan College of Architectural Technology is a full-time public institution of higher learning under the Sichuan Provincial Department of Housing and Urban-Rural Development. The college was founded as Chengdu Urban Construction Engineering School in 1956 and renamed as Chengdu Architectural Engineering School in 1958. In 1963, it was moved to Deyang, Sichuan Province. In 1980, it was renamed Sichuan Architectural Engineering School, and was designated as a national key secondary school by the Ministry of Education. In 1992, it was named as a provincial civilized unit by Sichuan Provincial Party Committee and provincial government. In 1994, it was again identified as a national key secondary school by the former State Education Commission. In 2001, with the approval of Sichuan Provincial People's Government, the former Sichuan Architectural Engineering School, Sichuan Urban Construction School and Sichuan Construction Workers University were merged to form Sichuan College of Architectural Technology. In 2003, the Staff University of the former China No. 2 Heavy Machinery Co., Ltd. was merged into the university, and the strength of the four universities was strengthened rapidly.

In 2004, the college passed the evaluation of talent training in higher vocational colleges and was awarded excellent grade. In 2008, the school was severely damaged in the May 12 earthquake, and overcame many difficulties to win the overall victory in earthquake relief and post-disaster reconstruction, which consolidated the foundation for the development of the school. In 2010, it passed the project approval and acceptance of national demonstration higher vocational colleges and was awarded the highest level by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance. In 2011, the College set up the first post-doctoral innovation practice base (post-doctoral workstation) among the higher vocational colleges in Sichuan, and jointly trained post-doctoral students with the "double first-class" universities in Sichuan, Chongqing, Shaanxi and other provinces (cities). In 2013, Chengdu (Qingbaijiang) Campus was put into use, and the overall educational capacity of the college was improved. In the same year, the college became one of the first pilot institutions in Sichuan Province for the reform of the cultivation of high-tech undergraduate talents. In 2015, the college was awarded the National Civilized Unit; In the same year, the college launched the action plan for innovation and development and was recognized as a national high quality vocational college. In 2019, the School was approved as a project to build high-level professional groups under the National "Double High-level Plan", which started a new journey of high-quality development of the school.
