Shihezi University
Shihezi University is a national "211 Project" key construction university, a national western development key construction university and a university jointly built by provinces and ministries, and is selected as a "basic capacity building project of universities in the central and western regions" and a "comprehensive strength improvement project of universities in the central and western regions" (one province and one school). In 2017, the school was selected as a national "double first-class" construction (first-class discipline) university, the first batch of demonstration universities in China to deepen the reform of innovation and entrepreneurship education, and the third batch of "National Innovation and Entrepreneurship Base for Practical Education in Colleges and Universities". In 2018, the school was selected as a "Ministry-Province Joint Construction" university between the Ministry of Education and Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps. In 2019, the school was selected as the second batch of "National Model Universities for Party Building Work". In 2020, the school was awarded "National Civilized Campus".
The university was born in September 1949, when the Chinese People's Liberation Army marched into Xinjiang. In April 1996, it was formed by the merger of Shihezi Agricultural College, Shihezi Medical College, Bingtuan Teachers College and Bingtuan Economic College.
The university always adheres to the orientation of "based on the Corps, serving Xinjiang, facing the whole country, radiating Central Asia and looking to the world", the philosophy of "serving for the purpose, developing through contribution", and the school-running characteristics of "educating people with the Corps spirit and serving for maintaining stability and defending borders", thus becoming an important force for maintaining stability and defending borders.
There are 11 major disciplines in the school, including economics, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, management and art. The school has 94 undergraduate majors, 9 first-class doctoral degree authorization points, 1 professional doctoral degree authorization point, 30 first-class master degree authorization points and 30 professional master degree authorization points. 4 postdoctoral research mobile stations and 2 Post-Doctoral Research Center. There are 1 national first-class construction discipline, 1 national key discipline and 10 key disciplines in the autonomous region. Clinical medicine, agricultural science and chemistry have entered the top 1% of ESI in the world. There are 12 national-level first-class specialty construction sites, 8 national-level first-class courses and 18 provincial-level first-class specialty construction sites. There are 3 national teaching teams, 2 national famous teachers, 4 national excellent courses, 3 excellent video open courses, 2 excellent resource sharing courses, 5 national specialty construction projects and 1 experimental teaching demonstration center. Two undergraduate courses and their course teams have been approved as national-level ideological and political demonstration courses and famous teachers and teams in ideological and political teaching. It is a pilot university of outstanding (doctors, engineers, agricultural and forestry talents) education and training program of the Ministry of Education, and has six outstanding talents training program pilot majors. The school also has a national cultural quality education base for college students and an off-campus practical education base.
University scientific research closely focuses on the major strategic needs of the country and the region, deeply implements the innovation-driven development strategy, takes deepening the reform of scientific research system and mechanism as the driving force, strengthens basic research and applied research, promotes the transformation of scientific and technological achievements, gives full play to the advantages of comprehensive and applied disciplines, and adheres to the road of Industry-University-Research integration. Breakthrough progress has been made in the research fields with regional advantages and characteristics, such as "high-efficiency agriculture and ecology in desert oasis, animal genetic improvement and disease control, prevention and control of local and ethnic high incidence in Xinjiang, high-efficiency storage and deep processing of agricultural products in Xinjiang, resources and development of special botanical medicines in Xinjiang, green chemical technology and new material technology, mechanization technology and equipment of agricultural production with Xinjiang characteristics, and economic and social development of XPCC". During the "Thirteenth Five-Year Plan" period, more than 1,000 provincial and ministerial level projects were approved, including national key R&D projects, key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation, major bidding projects of the National Philosophy and Social Sciences, and major scientific and technological projects of the Corps. More than 2,200 major scientific and technological achievements were obtained, and more than 160 provincial and ministerial level awards were won, and one third prize was won in the Eighth Scientific Research Outstanding Achievement Award of Colleges and Universities (Humanities and Social Sciences). At present, the school has two national key laboratory cultivation bases jointly built by provinces and departments, two key laboratories of Ministry of Education, one key laboratory of Ministry of Agriculture, one key laboratory of Health and Wellness Committee, 10 key laboratories of Corps, three national international science and technology cooperation bases, two engineering centers of Ministry of Education, one national and local joint engineering research center, two national and local joint engineering laboratories, one national university science park and one national new rural development research institute. There are 3 engineering technology research centers in XPCC, 2 collaborative innovation centers in 2011 jointly established by the Ministry of Education, 4 collaborative innovation centers in XPCC, 1 academic innovation and intelligence introduction base in colleges and universities ("111 Plan"), 2 sub-centers in XPCC of National Clinical Medical Research Center, 1 research center of National Ethnic Affairs Commission, 5 key research bases in liberal arts in autonomous regions and XPCC, and 2 new scientific and technological innovation think tanks in XPCC.
The university has good teaching and scientific research conditions. The campus covers an area of 1.794 million square meters, the school building covers an area of 1.261 million square meters, the laboratory and practice places cover an area of 269,700 square meters, and the green coverage rate is 41%. It has a number of landmark buildings such as well-equipped library, gymnasium, swimming pool, track and field hall, standard stadium, hall, comprehensive teaching building and museum, and has 4 affiliated hospitals.
At present, the university has 2,601 faculty members, 1,889 full-time teachers, 1 academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, 2 distinguished professor of Changjiang Scholars Award Program of Ministry of Education, 2 young scholars, 1 chair professor, 308 professors and 686 associate professors. There are 2 innovation teams of the Ministry of Education, 1 Huang Danian-style teacher team, 10 people selected into the "New Century Excellent Talents Support Program" of the Ministry of Education, and 89 experts at or above the provincial level.
The university recruits students from 31 provinces (cities and districts) across the country, and currently has 41,065 students, including 22,462 ordinary undergraduates, 1,769 ordinary junior college students, 6,503 master's and doctoral students, 9,916 adult students and 415 international students. The employment rate of undergraduate graduates has been in the forefront of Xinjiang universities for many years, and has been awarded the honorary titles of "National Advanced Collective for Employment of College Graduates" and "50 Universities with Typical Experience in Employment of Graduates in China".
The university has extensively carried out foreign exchanges and cooperation, established an international education center, established a Confucius Institute in Kazakhstan, and established a Chinese language center in Russia and Kazakhstan respectively. It has carried out multi-level and wide-ranging exchanges and cooperation with more than 70 universities and scientific research institutions in the United States, Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, New Zealand, Canada, Australia, Austria, Japan, South Korea and other countries. More than 1,350 people from 32 countries have come to study at the university.
The university actively expand exchanges and cooperation among schools, schools and enterprises. Since 2001, Peking University has been supporting Shihezi University for a long time. In 2010, the university team with Peking University as the team leader, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, East China University of Science and Technology and Huazhong Agricultural University as the deputy team leaders, and Chongqing University, Jiangnan University, university of international business and economics, Nanjing Normal University and South China Agricultural University as the member units supported Shihezi University. In 2018, China Agricultural University assisted in the construction of agricultural engineering discipline in our school. The school has successively signed inter-school cooperation agreements with more than 30 domestic universities such as Zhejiang University, Northwest A&F University and Shaanxi Normal University. Signed school-land cooperation agreements with more than 30 units in regiments and autonomous regions such as the Third Division, the Eighth Division, the Tenth Division, the Fourteenth Division, Manas County, Shawan County and heshuo; Established school-enterprise cooperation with more than 30 enterprises including Xinjiang Tianye, Xinjiang Tianfu, Tianshan Aluminum and Xinjiang Western Animal Husbandry.
