About the University

Founded in April 2002, Shenzhen University of Information Technology was officially approved by the Ministry of Education in June 2025 to be upgraded into a university based on the original Shenzhen Institute of Information Technology.

The university covers a campus area of 1,387.40 mu. It currently has 15,037 full-time students and 1,348 faculty and staff, with 17 secondary schools and 3 research institutes. It offers 54 majors mainly focusing on information technology, and launched 5 undergraduate programs in 2025. It has successively been recognized as a National Demonstrative (Backbone) Vocational College, National High-quality Vocational College, and an outstanding college under the National "Double High-level Plan" for Vocational Education. Ten of its majors rank first among vocational colleges nationwide. Its Engineering Science discipline has consistently entered the top 1% of the ESI global rankings. In 2025, it claimed the 1st place in the Soft Science Ranking of Chinese Vocational Colleges and the GDI Vocational College Ranking.

Aligning its majors with industries, the university deepens the integration of industry and education to develop a school-running model matching Shenzhen’s new-generation information technology industry. Targeting Shenzhen’s "20+8" industrial clusters, it implements a strategic major layout themed "Strengthening Chips, Empowering Intelligence, Advancing Aerospace & Communications, and Forging Ahead into the Future". It has established 4 Higher Engineering Colleges together with platform enterprises including Tencent and Inovance, launched 12 types of distinctive training classes, and built 16 characteristic industrial colleges with leading industrial enterprises. It has jointly set up industry education integration communities with China Electronics and Huawei, forming diversified carriers for university-enterprise cooperation and industry-education integration. Four industrial colleges have been recognized as demonstration industrial colleges by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and Guangdong Province. Rooted in vocational education and committed to holistic education, the university cultivates technical and skilled talents featuring "two excellences and two strengths": sound morality, solid expertise, strong practical capabilities and high adaptability. It has developed 10 national-level high-quality online courses and compiled 56 national vocational education planned textbooks. In the past three years, it has won 6 national teaching achievement awards and 17 provincial ones. In 2023, it obtained two first prizes and two second prizes of National Teaching Achievement Awards, tying for the largest number of first prizes among vocational institutions nationwide. Faculty have won 119 provincial awards in teaching competence competitions and 3 national awards in the 2023 National Vocational College Teaching Competence Competition, ranking first among peer institutions in Guangdong. One young teacher claimed the gold medal in the Optoelectronic Technology event of the 47th WorldSkills Competition. The university advances the integration of science and education to support high-end industrial upgrading in the region with continuously improving capacity for technological services. It has obtained projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China for 16 consecutive years, and took part in 4 major national key research projects for the first time in 2024. It co-built the SZIT Innovation Harbour with leading tech enterprises including Huawei, and set up public technology service platforms and proof-of-concept centers for third-generation semiconductors and new materials together with SMIC. Up to now, it runs 17 research platforms at or above provincial and ministerial level. The SZIT New Materials Public Technology Service Platform has been accredited as a Demonstration Platform for Service-oriented Manufacturing by the Department of Industry and Information Technology of Guangdong Province. Over the past five years, it has jointly cultivated 141 degree international students with Pakistan, Indonesia and other countries. It has been selected for the "China-Arab Universities 10+10 Cooperation Program" of the Ministry of Education and the EU Erasmus+ Programme. It co-initiated the China-Nigeria Industry-Education Consortium, participated in Huawei’s TVET curriculum reform project in South Africa, established the first Partner ICT Institute in Paris, France, and deployed 3 ICT Twin Laboratories worldwide.
