Shaoguan University is a public full-time comprehensive undergraduate university in Guangdong Province, and is a bachelor's degree awarding unit. It is located in Shaoguan, a famous historical and cultural city in northern Guangdong, where Danxia Mountain and Nanhua Temple are located in the World Geopark.

Shaoguan College started its higher education with Shaoguan Teachers College founded in July 1958. In July 1989, Shaoguan Teachers College merged with Shaoguan University founded in 1985, and was named Shaoguan University in December 1990. In March 2000, Shaoguan University merged with Shaoguan Institute of Education, which was founded in 1979, and was upgraded to an undergraduate college, which was renamed Shaoguan College (hereinafter referred to as the school). In December 2016, the school was listed as an undergraduate university jointly established by Guangdong Provincial People's Government and Shaoguan Municipal People's Government. In March, 2018, Shaozhou Normal College was formally incorporated into the school. In December 2018, the school passed the examination and evaluation of undergraduate teaching work of the Ministry of Education with excellent results. In January 2021, the school was adjusted to a provincial full-time undergraduate university, and the School of Medicine of Shaoguan University was officially incorporated into the school. The goal of running a school is a regional high-level applied university featuring normal education, taking agronomy and engineering as development advantages, and coordinated development of multiple disciplines.

The school covers an area of 2,627 mu, with a total building area of 868,900 square meters. The total value of fixed assets is 1.53 billion yuan, of which the total value of teaching and scientific research instruments and equipment is 416 million yuan. The collection of paper books is 2,882,100 copies; The school was selected into the Ministry of Education-ZTE ICT Industry-Education Integration Innovation Base Project Cooperative College. There are 1 national college student practice education base, 2 provincial collaborative education platforms, 22 provincial college student practice teaching bases, 12 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers, 30 university experimental teaching demonstration centers, 24 provincial demonstration teacher education practice bases and 31 university demonstration teacher education practice bases. We will build 340 practice bases with various enterprises and institutions.

There are 2630 teaching staff and 1245 full-time teachers. There are 121 full-time senior titles, 417 deputy senior titles and 265 doctors. 113 visiting professors and distinguished professor. At present, there is one national inspector, four experts who enjoy special allowance from the State Council, two national excellent teachers, one national advanced worker in the education system, four provincial famous teachers, 10 excellent teachers from South Guangdong, two outstanding educators from South Guangdong, 20 people in the "Sailing Plan" of Guangdong Province, one person in the "Guangdong Special Support Plan" propaganda and ideological and cultural leading talent project in 2019, and seven provincial training objects in the "Thousand Hundred Talents Training Project" of Guangdong Province.

The school mainly focuses on full-time undergraduate education, giving attention to postgraduate education, and enrolls students in 25 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the Central Government), Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan regions and many other countries. At present, there are 29,700 full-time college students and 0.9 million adult education students. There are 11 disciplines including arts, science, industry, agriculture, law, management, art, education, economy, history and medicine, 17 secondary colleges and 74 undergraduate majors. At present, there are 1 national specialty (mechanical design and manufacturing and automation), 9 provincial specialty, 2 provincial demonstration specialty of applied talents training, 1 provincial specialty of strategic emerging industries, 3 provincial key specialties, 9 provincial first-class undergraduate specialties, 28 cooperative education projects of industry and university of the Ministry of Education, and 21 provincial comprehensive professional reform pilot projects. Three majors have passed IEET engineering education certification. There are 22 scientific research platforms at or above the provincial level and 6 provincial scientific research and innovation teams. In the past three years, the school has won 515 vertical research projects at or above the municipal level, including 19 state-level projects (including humanities and social sciences research projects of the Ministry of Education) and 108 provincial-level projects, with a total expenditure of 42.536 million yuan.
