Shanxi Polytechnic College is a public higher vocational college affiliated with the People’s Government of Shanxi Province and administered by the Shanxi Provincial Department of Education. It is recognized as a National High-quality Higher Vocational College, National Demonstrative Backbone Higher Vocational College, one of the first Modern Apprenticeship Pilot Colleges approved by the Ministry of Education, a construction unit of the National High-level Vocational School and Professional Group Construction Plan, and a High-quality Higher Vocational College of Shanxi Province. It is also a Shanxi Provincial Civilized Campus, an advanced unit for building a National Civilized Campus, an Excellent Unit of National College Students’ Social Practice, a Demonstration Site for the Construction of Socialist Core Values in Shanxi Province, an Advanced Unit for Building a Safe Campus in Shanxi Province, an Excellent Unit for Comprehensive Social Security Governance in Shanxi Province, and one of the first Demonstration Units for Building a Clean Campus in Shanxi Province.

The college was formed by the merger and upgrading of three schools, namely Shanxi Building Materials Industry School, Shanxi Electronic Industry School and Shanxi Logistics Technology School. It now has four campuses: Wucheng, South Zhonghuan, Changfeng and Yuci. The college offers 60 majors covering emerging information technology, intelligent manufacturing, fine chemical industry, coal chemical technology, modern logistics, finance and business, cultural tourism, cultural relic restoration, art design, architectural engineering, building materials and new materials. It boasts a complete professional system with national and provincial key majors and major groups, including national Double High-level major groups, national key construction majors, central finance supported majors, provincial high-level majors, provincial characteristic majors, provincial brand majors, modern apprenticeship pilot majors and national shortage talent training majors. It has built a number of high-level training bases at national and provincial levels.

The college currently has 15,817 students and 783 faculty members, including 645 full-time teachers, 175 teachers with senior professional titles and 390 dual-qualified teachers. It has 2 national-level vocational education teaching innovation teams, 4 provincial-level teaching innovation teams and 18 college-level teaching innovation teams. In recent three years, the college has introduced high-level talents including doctors, masters from Double First-Class universities, national technical experts and senior professional talents, and sent many scholars for overseas exchanges. The college has a large number of outstanding teachers, including national technical experts, provincial outstanding talents, national and provincial famous teachers, and studio leaders of skill masters.

The college is a standing director unit of the Chinese Society of Vocational and Technical Education, a vice-chairman unit of the National Vocational Education Social Training Cooperation Alliance, and the chairman unit of the Shanxi Silicate Society. It has taken the lead in establishing a number of provincial-level vocational education groups and industry-education integration communities, and built many national and provincial innovation centers, training bases and industrial colleges. It is listed among the Top 50 National Vocational Colleges in Industry-Education Integration. As a national demonstration college for innovation and entrepreneurship education, the college has established long-term stable cooperative relations and off-campus training bases with more than 160 large and medium-sized enterprises at home and abroad. It carries out order-based training, modern apprenticeship training, staff training and technical research and development cooperation. It actively carries out vocational skill training and 1+X certificate training for social groups. Its college student innovation and entrepreneurship park has been awarded the title of Provincial Youth Maker Space.

The graduate employment rate of the college has remained above 95% in recent years, basically realizing high-quality and satisfactory employment. With more than 40 years of school-running history, the college has cultivated over 100,000 graduates for regional economic and social development, including a large number of industry leaders and technical backbones. It actively cooperates with local governments to carry out skill training and boost rural revitalization.

The college has achieved fruitful teaching and scientific research results. It has built national vocational education workshops, national and provincial high-quality online courses and golden courses, and compiled national and provincial planned textbooks. It ranks among the top in national vocational college competition rankings and has won many national first prizes, second prizes and bronze medals in national vocational skills competitions. It has won a silver medal in the World Vocational College Skills Competition, achieving the best performance in Shanxi Province. The college also excels in sports and cultural activities, with its sports teams ranking top in Shanxi Province and nationwide. The men’s basketball team has maintained outstanding championship achievements in provincial and regional competitions for many years and has won national runner-up honors many times.
