Shangqiu Medical College, located in Shangqiu City, Henan Province, is under the jurisdiction of Henan Province. It operates under a co-construction system by the provincial and municipal governments (Shangqiu City), with the municipal government taking the lead. It is a public full-time ordinary junior college approved by the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China. It is a high-quality junior college in Henan Province, one of the first batch of higher vocational education characteristic colleges in Henan Province, a pilot college for the cultivation of "outstanding doctors" in Henan Province, one of the first batch of modern apprenticeship system pilot colleges in China, and a project unit for the construction of high-level higher vocational schools and high-level specialties in Henan Province. It has a long history of running schools. The school is one of the earliest institutions in Henan Province to offer medical-related programs. Its predecessor was the "Guide Saint Paul Hospital Nursing School" established in 1921. It has gone through stages such as the "Fifth Nursing School of Henan Province" and the "Shangqiu Prefecture Health School". Over the past century since its establishment, It has cultivated tens of thousands of outstanding medical and health talents for the country, including Wu Jingfang, the winner of the 33rd Nightingale Medal, and Song Jing, the winner of the 45th Nightingale Medal. The campus covers an area of 1,617.75 mu and has a building area of 415,900 square meters. There are currently 883 full-time teachers, among whom 303 hold associate senior professional titles or above, and 400 have master's degrees or above. There are 9 teaching colleges and departments, 24 majors (including 2 national key majors and 6 provincial characteristic majors), 8 affiliated hospitals (one of which is a tertiary general hospital), and 68 internship bases. A complete affiliated hospital system has been established to support undergraduate clinical teaching. It recruits students from 27 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions across the country, with over 15,000 students on campus.

The development trend is good. In recent years, under the bottom-line thinking of safe development, the school has carried out bold reforms and innovations, adjusted and improved the functions of internal institutions, and enhanced the ability of cadres to perform their duties. The management measures for the introduction and cultivation of high-level talents and the reward measures for teaching and research have been issued. A total of 70 doctoral students have been introduced and cultivated. It has a significant regional influence.
