Shandong First Medical University（Shandong Academy Of Medical Sciences）
In order to optimize the development layout of higher education in Shandong Province, Shandong Provincial Party Committee and provincial government implemented the reform of integrating science and education, integrating the resources of the former Taishan Medical University, Shandong Academy of Medical Sciences, Shandong Provincial Hospital and Shandong Qianfo Mountain Hospital to establish Shandong First Medical University. Approved by the Ministry of Education, Shandong First Medical University was officially established in February 2019, under the brand name of Shandong Academy of Medical Sciences.
Shandong First Medical University (Shandong Academy of Medical Sciences) is a key university and the largest medical scientific research institution in Shandong Province. In 2020, Shandong First Medical University (Shandong Academy of Medical Sciences) was selected as one of the Top universities in Shandong Province. The school has campuses in Jinan and Tai 'an, the main campus is located in the core area of Jinan International Medical Science Center (No. 6699 Qingdao Road, Jinan City), and research institutes in Jinan, Qingdao, Jining and other places, covering a total area of more than 6000 mu.
The University (Hospital) has 19,198 staff and staff (including affiliated hospitals), including 9 academicians (including 5 dual academicians) and 1 overseas academician. The school (college) has a complete talent training system. At present, it has 1 first-level discipline authorized for doctoral degree, 9 first-level disciplines authorized for master's degree, 7 professional master's degree authorization categories and 94 master's degree authorization points. There are 51 undergraduate programs, including 5 national first-class undergraduate programs and 23 provincial first-class undergraduate programs. There are 4 national characteristic majors and 8 provincial characteristic majors. Eight disciplines, including clinical medicine, Pharmacology and Toxicology, biology and biochemistry, Molecular biology and genetics, Neuroscience and behavior, chemistry, immunology and microbiology, rank top 1% in ESI worldwide, among which clinical medicine ranks top 1‰. Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences ranked 10th among independent medical universities in China in terms of science and technology. One discipline has been selected as the "Peak Discipline" construction discipline of Shandong Province, one discipline has been selected as the cultivation discipline of Shandong Province, and six disciplines have been selected as the key disciplines of Shandong Province. It has a number of affiliated hospitals, and has formed a mountain medical system, directly serving more than 10 million people annually. The affiliated provincial hospital and affiliated cancer hospital rank among the top 100 in China. There are 16 national key clinical specialties and 7 national drug clinical trial institutions. It was the first province in China to basically eliminate leishmaniasis, filariasis, malaria, and leprosy, winning the "four consecutive crown" in eliminating medical history in New China. At present, it guides the province to carry out the prevention and treatment of occupational diseases, skin diseases, parasitic diseases, early diagnosis and treatment of tumors, radiation protection, blindness prevention and treatment, rare and rare diseases. It has a World Health Organization collaborating center.
The University is one of the first universities to award the Shandong Provincial Government Scholarship for foreign students. Since 2004, it has enrolled undergraduate and master students from more than 20 countries and regions, such as the United States, South Korea and India, and enjoys a good international reputation. It has established good cooperative relations with universities, medical and scientific research institutions in more than 30 countries including the United States, the United Kingdom, Russia and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.

International Education College aims to create the advanced brand image of medical foreign students education in Shandong. It’s objective is entering the ranks of advanced universities list in China in accordance with the principle of “stable scale, improve quality, adjust the structure, build the brand”. Currently, it had enrolled nearly two thousand students from Pakistan, India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Kazakhstan, Garner, United States, South Korea, Canada, Russia and 20 other countries and regions. At present, there are more than 600 full-time undergraduate medical students. At the same time, it carried out training program for master’s level international students in China. The number of medical students in the school is ranked first among medical colleges in Shandong Province. According to the latest statistics, 2017,the internationalization level of students of our university is 33th best in the nation, first in Shandong province.
According to the arrangement and requirement of the NOCFL (China National Office for Teaching Chinese as a foreign Language), our school has successfully organized the 15 national Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) until now. International students and enterprises from the United States, Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Nepal and Angola and other countries have participated in the test from first to sixth level of new HSK.
The university’ image is enhanced steadily in the country of origin, and the university hold enrollment conference in the country of origin regularly. In 2012, the university established the center of Jakarta Education of Taishan Medical University in Jakarta, Indonesia, and it participated in international students of China education exhibition; it visited 17 cities in the north of India, and held 24 different scale enrollment conference. It explored the student market in northern India; In 2014, the school secretary Wang led the team to India, Nepal for investigating foreign countries’ higher medical education and the construction situation of Our school’s base. In addition, he visited the Consulate General of China in Mumbai by introducing the development of our school, school-running characteristics, the international strategy and so on. Furthermore, the school increased the enrollment potential of international students in India and set up Taishan Medical University Alumni Association of India students and Alumni Association of Nepal students. In 2015, the school participated in education exhibition in Malaysia.
In June 2010, the first international students graduated from International Education School. At present, there are 499 clinical medical undergraduate students graduated successfully, and participate in examination of practicing doctors’ qualifications. The pass rate is above the benchmark. Particularly, Nepal graduates in 2012 achieved the rate of 86%, which is far higher than the national average. Our college has cooperated with many foreign universities and educational institutions to prepare short-term learning programs and intercultural training programs, related to Chinese language, Chinese history, Chinese culture, Chinese economy, Chinese medicine and so on.
School began to recruit students in western medicine undergraduate (English teaching) in 2010. In 2011, it became one of the state of national Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK test). In July 2011, it became one of the 16 institutions that the first to accept the Shandong provincial government foreign students scholarship, getting the numbers of scholarship is the first in Shandong’s universities.
The school has established a group which is mainly responsible international students, and it has established the principle of guarantee quality, creates high quality brand of international student education development, introduced,,and other related policies to promote educational development. Now International Education College is independent, and there are three international students’ apartment buildings. The Construction area covers nearly twenty 2,0000 square meters. Students’ dormitories are equipped with air condition, water heater, independent bathroom, which can accommodate nearly 1000 students. There are specialized teaching building, restaurant, sports facilities, the environment is beautiful and quiet. The school is building foreign teachers’ apartment and international students’ activity center, by which the living conditions of international students will be further improved.
Our college has cooperated with many foreign universities and educational institutions to prepare short-term learning programs and intercultural training programs, related to Chinese language, Chinese history, Chinese culture, Chinese economy, Chinese medicine and so on. For example, we carried out Chinese learning program with America and Canada, exchange program with Korea and Philippines, winter camp project with Xinhan University of Korea, etc.; meanwhile we established the Chinese cultural experience site to innovate the mode of cultural experience and to scope out a new field of it. The Chinese cultural experience site offers a solid basis for aspects of global student recruitment, the construction of practical teaching staff, teaching Chinese for foreign students and featured activities.
The winter camp project with Xinhan University of Korea held in January, 2011, for example, was being intended to achieve immersion education. The school launched the planning of teacher training for medical international students, set up special fund. 160 key teachers qualified to teach international students, which provides a solid foundation to improve the teaching quality of international students. The school’ recruit coverage expanded to Pakistan, India, Nepal, Bengal, Kazakhstan, Garner, the United States, South Korea, Canada and other 23 countries and regions. In order to enhance education level of international students, the school began to recruit international students to cultivate for master's degree in the spring of 2015. The school established SRC of Taishan Medical University, with cooperation of Shanghai university of political science and law to built Cultural experience base for international students. TMU international students alumni association were established in both India and Nepal.
The education of international students in our school has been affirmed and praised by superior leaders and people from all walks of life. Specifically, Shandong governor, Guo Shuqing and other provincial leaders gave full affirmation to the achievements of our international students’ education. Embassy officials in India, Iran, Garner, Pakistan Medical Council and the friend countries have sent a delegates repeatedly to our school to investigate the education of international students. About 40 India students in our school are invited to go to Shanghai to meet with Prime Minister of India, Modi, when he was in China. This event effectively enhanced the school's international influence.
