Shandong Jiaotong University is a full-time general undergraduate college featuring the cultivation of comprehensive transportation talents, and is a project construction unit of Shandong Province Higher Education Application-oriented Talent Cultivation School, and a college jointly built by Shandong Province and the Ministry of Transport.
The school was founded in 1956, its predecessor was Jinan Automobile Machinery School of the Ministry of Transportation, and in 2000, the school was transferred from the Ministry of Transportation to Shandong Province, and the management system was jointly built by the central government and the local government; in 2002, the Ministry of Education approved the merger of Jinan Traffic College and China National Heavy Industry Vehicle Staff University to form Shandong Traffic College; in 2005, Shandong Water Transport School was incorporated into the school; in 2011, the school was approved by In 2011, the school was approved by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council as a pilot unit for cultivating master's degree postgraduates; in 2011, it was evaluated as a typical university with "Top 50 National Universities for Graduate Employment"; in 2016, Shandong Internal Combustion Engine Research Institute was incorporated into the whole establishment; in 2017, it was approved as the construction unit for granting master's degree in Shandong Province (Class A). After 65 years of development, the university has gradually developed into a university with the main focus on engineering, supported by "management and science", with the characteristics of cultivating senior applied professionals in transportation industry with patriotism spirit, international vision, innovation consciousness and practical spirit, and has trained various kinds of graduates, management cadres and engineering technicians in transportation industry for the country. The university has trained more than 270,000 cadres and engineering technicians in the transportation industry.
The university is located in Jinan, an ancient cultural city with a long history, and operates in Jinan and Weihai, with four campuses: Jinan Changqing Campus, Wujingshan Campus, East Campus and Weihai Campus, and an independent legal person research institute in Linyi and Weihai City. The university covers an area of more than 3,200 mu, with a construction area of more than 980,000 square meters, and the total value of teaching and research instruments and equipment is nearly 410 million yuan. The paper collection is more than 2.2 million volumes and the electronic periodicals are more than 1.36 million volumes. There are nearly 24,000 full-time undergraduates, 530 postgraduates and 170 international students enrolled in the university. The university has more than 1470 full-time teachers, among whom there are more than 620 people with professional and technical positions above the associate level, more than 460 people with doctoral degrees, more than 870 people with master's degrees, and more than 150 postgraduate tutors. The university has 1 national talent, 6 people enjoying the special allowance of the State Council, 5 young and middle-aged experts with outstanding contribution in Shandong Province, 15 excellent teachers at provincial and ministerial level, and 15 people selected for the key talent project at provincial and ministerial level. In the Analysis Report of the National Teaching Competition for Teachers in General Universities (2012-2020) of the Chinese Society of Higher Education, our university ranks 162nd nationwide, 9th in Shandong Province, and 3rd in the country for new undergraduate institutions.
The university is mainly specialized in transportation, covering 7 disciplines such as "engineering, management, science, economics, literature, arts and law", and has built up three major groups of advantages in transportation construction, comprehensive transportation and vehicle design and manufacturing; there are 19 colleges (departments), offering 57 undergraduate majors and 2 master's majors in transportation and machinery. There are 1 high-level discipline (advantageous and characteristic discipline) in Shandong Province, 4 provincial key disciplines (secondary discipline), 2 national characteristic majors, 4 national first-class undergraduate majors, 7 provincial characteristic majors, 15 provincial first-class undergraduate majors, 2 engineering education certified majors, 5 provincial high-level application-oriented construction majors (groups), Shandong Province Education Service New Old Dynamic Energy Conversion There are 5 national first-class undergraduate courses, 28 provincial first-class undergraduate courses and 3 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers; the university has won 21 provincial teaching achievement awards in the last two sessions, including 1 special award, 5 first-class awards and 15 second-class awards.
The university has 41 scientific research platforms at municipal level and above, including 1 national key laboratory of transportation industry, 1 laboratory of Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (Shandong), 1 provincial key laboratory (preparation), 3 provincial engineering technology research centers, 3 provincial engineering laboratories, 1 provincial engineering research center, 1 provincial university collaborative innovation center, 1 provincial marine engineering technology collaborative innovation center, 1 provincial key industry field accident prevention technology research center (transportation industry), 2 provincial big data development innovation laboratories, 7 provincial transportation industry key laboratories, 2 department-level engineering research centers, 11 local and municipal key laboratories and engineering technology research centers, and 6 local and municipal engineering laboratories. In addition, there are 1 new provincial R&D institution, 1 provincial academician workstation and 1 provincial transportation science base. "Since the 13th Five-Year Plan, it has hosted more than 790 longitudinal projects and spent more than 630 million yuan in vertical and horizontal research. Published more than 220 monographs, more than 930 papers in SCI, EI, CSSCI and other indexed papers and Chinese core journals; more than 2000 authorized patents. More than 20 scientific research awards at provincial and ministerial level and above, including National Science and Technology Award, Shandong Province Science and Technology Award, Shandong Province Social Science Excellent Achievement Award, etc. Among them, "Construction Support Technology and Engineering Application of Powdered Soil Roadbed in Middle and Lower reaches of Yellow River" won the Second Prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award and the First Prize of Shandong Province Science and Technology Progress Award. The "Research and development of efficient and intelligent full environment simulation road accelerated loading experiment system" won the first prize of Shandong Province Technical Invention Award.
The university insists on opening up the school, actively carries out foreign exchanges and cooperation, devotes to cultivating composite talents with international vision and knowledge of international rules, establishes cooperation with more than 50 universities in nearly 20 countries, such as Russia, Belarus, Britain and Germany, and widely carries out faculty and student exchanges and academic research cooperation. The university attaches importance to the education and cultivation of international students, and has enrolled nearly 1,000 international students from more than 50 countries. In response to the "One Belt, One Road" initiative of China, the university has strengthened cooperation and exchange with countries along the Belt and Road, and jointly opened the first non-independent legal person Sino-Russian cooperative educational institution in Shandong Province, the Don River Institute, with the Don River State Technical University of Russia. We have actively carried out overseas education, and set up "Shandong Traffic - Khon Kaen College" in Khon Kaen, Thailand, and Russian-Chinese Traffic Education Institute in Irkutsk, Russia.
