Sanjiang University is located in Nanjing, the historical and cultural city of the Six Dynasties, and is a provincial undergraduate university approved by the Ministry of Education of China.

In March 1992, Tao Yongde and Qi Huanlin of Southeast University, Ding Chengxiew of Nanjing University and Xie Mingcai of Nanjing Staff University, four retired and retiring professors and educational management officials, initiated and founded Sanjiang University. The university has four campuses: Tiexinqiao Main Campus, East Campus, South Campus and Dongshan Campus. Tiexinqiao main campus is located on the bank of the new Qinhuai River at the foot of Niushou Mountain in Yuhuatai District, south of Nanjing, between two waters and three mountains, "looking south to Niushou, east to Fangshan and north to Zijin", "the great river is majestic, Qinhuai is clarified" (all from the poem "Remembering the South" written by Luo Jialun, the former president of Central University). The European-style university building, elegant and magnificent, is integrated with the green mountains and water, and the greening rate reaches 70%. The four campuses cover a total area of 1,030.4 mu, with a construction area of 474,700 square meters, teaching and administrative buildings of about 207,500 square meters and student dormitories of 143,700 square meters. Sanjiang University has more than 21,000 full-time undergraduate students, with 12 secondary colleges and 55 undergraduate majors. Guided by the principle of "strengthening advantageous majors, transforming traditional majors, and cultivating new majors", the university has formed six professional clusters which are closely connected with the pillar industries and new industries in Jiangsu Province, and formed a professional layout with coordinated development of engineering, arts, management, economics, law, arts and science. At present, there are 1 national comprehensive reform pilot major, 2 provincial brand majors in Jiangsu, 3 national first-class major construction points, 14 provincial first-class major construction points, 1 provincial excellent engineer pilot major, and 4 provincial key construction disciplines.

The university has always paid attention to the construction of scientific research platform, and 118 national and provincial scientific research projects have been added in the past three years, including 4 National Social Science Foundation projects and 4 National Natural Science Foundation projects. At the same time, the ability to serve society has been significantly enhanced, with 236 new horizontal projects and 44 intellectual property rights authorized. Teachers of the university have published more than 900 academic papers, among which more than 50 have been indexed by SCI, EI and SSCI, and more than 180 have been published in CSSCI, CSCD and Chinese core journals; in 2020, it was approved as a key research base of philosophy and social science in Jiangsu universities - "Chinese and foreign South China Sea Historical Opinion Research Base".

Sanjiang University implements comprehensive reform and refines cultivation characteristics. It insists on the orientation of application-oriented cultivation, reforms the talent cultivation mode and improves the quality of talent cultivation. It has formulated the training standard of "certification-oriented and industry-approved", constructed the training program of "module structure and project carrier", piloted the training mechanism of "streaming training and independent selection", and carried out the "vertical training". The training mechanism was piloted, the curriculum reform of "vertical linkage and horizontal interaction" was carried out, the practical teaching of "close to engineering and comprehensive application" was strengthened, the learning evaluation of "ability-oriented and multi-dimensional" was adopted, and the "three levels of learning" was implemented. The study evaluation is "ability-oriented and multi-dimensional", the student management is "led by three teachers and dovetailed with three sections", and the cultivation mode of "integration of three universitys and collaboration of three colleges" is created. The university has been awarded eight key textbooks and nine provincial-level online open courses in Jiangsu Province.

The university pays attention to students' innovation and entrepreneurship education, and has established the Innovation and Entrepreneurship College, built the "555" innovation and entrepreneurship education system, set up 8 credits of innovation and entrepreneurship education for college students, opened the innovation and entrepreneurship curriculum system of "foundation + module", and formed a system of The system of innovation and entrepreneurship is formed with the competition as the core, innovation project training and entrepreneurship project practice as the basis.
