Ningxia University is a university jointly built by the Ministry of Education and the People's Government of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, a national "double first-class" university, and a national "211 project" key construction university.

Founded in 1958, Ningxia University merged with the former Ningxia Institute of Technology and Yinchuan Teachers College (including Ningxia Institute of Education) in December 1997, and merged with Ningxia Agricultural College in February 2002 to form the new Ningxia University; in April 2014, the Zhongwei Campus of Ningxia University was established, unveiling a new page of reform and development of the university.
