About the University

Established in June 2001, NingboTech University (NingboTech) changed its name from Zhejiang University Ningbo Institute of Technology (ZJUNIT) to the current one in January 2020. NingboTech is a full-time public university managed by Zhejiang Provincial People’s Government, founded by the Ningbo Municipal People’s Government, and supported by Zhejiang University (ZJU) with the ratification of the Ministry of Education (MoE). Adhering to the philosophy of “Education for students’ development”, NingboTech is committed to cultivating “high-quality and creative talents with all-round development, humanistic spirits and scientific literacy”. With a goal to be among “First Class Universities in Zhejiang and Top 100 in China”, it is currently thriving to turn itself into a high-level application-oriented university.

Located in Ningbo Higher Education Park, NingboTech covers an area of around 80 hectares, with a total initial investment of 840 million yuan ($120 million) and a floor space of about 39.04 hectares. It boasts advanced teaching and experimental facilities, including 55 high-standard laboratories. NingboTech and ZJU share abundant digital resources through dedicated optical fiber with gigabit bandwidth. The 2-hectare library has a collection of more than 1.38 million books.

NingboTech adopts a long-term strategy of invigorating itself through talent development. 44.84% of the full-time faculty hold associate professorship or higher, and 55.8% have doctoral degrees. Among the faculty members, three are national academicians, 173 are awardees of talent projects at or above the municipal level, 120 are master’s supervisors (including more than 30 doctoral supervisors). 60 renowned scholars at home and abroad, including academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, have been employed as honorary or part-time professors. The Advisory Committee and the Steering Committees of different majors are composed of professors, experts and senior executives from Zhejiang University, government departments and famous companies.

NingboTech has set up a talent cultivation system with undergraduate education as the main focus, graduate education, adult and continuing education as the supplement. After years of efforts, a disciplinary and major system has been set up with a focus on engineering and coordinated development of science, liberal arts, law, economics and management.

NingboTech, guided by the principle of serving society, has formed a social service system integrating governments, industries, universities and research institutes which is rooted locally and oriented nationally. It has conducted comprehensive cooperation with local governments, enterprises and government-affiliated institutions in creating 79 research institutes at all levels (27 at or above the municipal level). The 2019 total scientific research funds from external entities exceeded 88.91 million yuan ($12 million). Equipped with the Schools of Adult Education and Continuing Education, it offers undergraduate programs, junior college programs and non-degree training courses. It has also established Ningbo Managers’ Academy together with entities like the Organization Department of CPC Ningbo Municipal Party Committee, held training sessions for CEOs of key enterprises and senior executives. All of those programs have trained more than 7,000 entrepreneurs.
