Mudanjiang Medical University is the only provincial general undergraduate medical college in the southeast of Heilongjiang Province, located in Mudanjiang City, an important central city and scenic tourist city in the southeast of Heilongjiang Province. The history of the school can be traced back to Mudanjiang District Hospital, which was founded in 1946, and Heilongjiang Health Cadre Training School, which was founded in 1956. Mudanjiang Medical College was founded in 1958, and the famous historian Mr. Guo Moruo wrote the name of the school. In May 2024, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, it was renamed Mudanjiang Medical University.

The school began undergraduate education in 1958 and was granted the right to confer a master's degree in 2013. In the evaluation of undergraduate teaching level by the Ministry of Education in 2006, the expert group gave an excellent evaluation. In 2010, it was listed as a characteristic application-oriented undergraduate university in Heilongjiang Province. In 2012, it was selected as one of the first pilot universities for the National Excellent Doctor Education and Training Program. In 2015, it was awarded the title of "National Civilized Unit" and obtained a 6-year validity period in the Clinical Medicine Professional Certification of the Ministry of Education, ranking at the leading level of local medical colleges. In 2016, it received high praise from the expert group in the national undergraduate teaching review and evaluation. In 2020, it was selected as a characteristic applied undergraduate demonstration university in Heilongjiang Province.

The school has long adhered to the educational direction of "running schools for rural areas and serving the grassroots", and has gained full recognition from the country and society. The exploration and practice of cultivating local doctors for rural areas was awarded the National Excellent Teaching Achievement Special Prize.

The school covers an area of 712200 square meters, with a building area of 350700 square meters. The total value of teaching and research equipment is 209 million yuan.

The university offers undergraduate enrollment to 28 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities across the country, with a total of 11677 full-time master's and undergraduate students. The school offers 21 undergraduate majors, including clinical medicine, medical imaging technology, pharmaceutical engineering, and public utility management, covering four disciplines: medicine, science, engineering, and management. Clinical medicine, medical imaging, anesthesiology, and medical laboratory are provincial-level key majors, while clinical medicine, medical imaging, medical laboratory technology, and pharmaceutical engineering are listed as provincial-level first-class undergraduate major construction points. Medical imaging is a provincial-level first-class characteristic major, a national first-class characteristic major construction point, and a provincial talent cultivation model innovation experimental area. Stomatology, clinical medicine, medical imaging, and anesthesiology majors are listed as undergraduate first tier enrollment. Clinical medicine, basic medicine, biology, nursing, public health, pharmacy, and biomedical engineering are the first level disciplines authorized for master's degrees, with 29 second level disciplines authorized for master's degrees. Grassroots practical clinical medicine is listed as a "Double First Class" construction project in Heilongjiang Province - a provincial characteristic discipline construction discipline. Six disciplines, including basic medicine and biology, are provincial-level key disciplines. There are currently 7 provincial-level high-quality online open courses, including "Common Infectious Diseases", "Brilliant Stomatology", and "Functionality", as well as provincial-level high-quality video open courses, and provincial-level mixed first-class courses online and offline.

The school currently has 2821 in-service faculty members (including two directly affiliated hospitals), 885 with senior professional titles, and 912 with master's degrees or above. There are 751 full-time teachers, 237 with senior professional titles, and 244 with deputy senior professional titles. 76.2% of teachers hold master's or above degrees, including 159 teachers with doctoral degrees. There are 273 doctoral and master's supervisors, 3 specially appointed professors of Longjiang scholars, 4 recipients of special subsidies from the State Council and provincial governments, 1 outstanding young and middle-aged expert in the province, 9 young and middle-aged experts with outstanding contributions to the provincial health system, and 4 leading talent teams in the province. Our school teachers have won 16 national level awards, including the special prize in the first National Medical Imaging Technology Professional Teacher Teaching Design Competition and the second prize in the second National Rehabilitation Related Professional Youth Teacher Classroom Teaching Competition.

The school currently has four key laboratories in Heilongjiang Province, including tumor disease prevention and stroke prevention and treatment; We have the "Chronic Disease and Drug Research Center" of the Sino Russian Medical University Alliance, the provincial biopharmaceutical technology service platform, the engineering technology research and development center jointly built by provincial universities and enterprises, as well as the only provincial science and technology department, Mudanjiang Municipal Government, and Mudanjiang Medical College jointly built pharmaceutical research and development platform in the province.

The university attaches great importance to scientific research and discipline construction, vigorously promotes scientific and technological innovation, and has won one second prize of the the State Technological Innovation Award and two first prizes of provincial and ministerial science and technology awards. In the past five years, he has won 24 provincial and ministerial science and technology awards, and one second prize of the the State Natural Science Award and one second prize of the Science and Technology Progress Award. Received 1174 scientific research projects, including 80 scientific research projects approved by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, National Key R&D Plan, and Provincial Natural Science Foundation of China; Published 3980 papers in academic journals both domestically and internationally, and multiple papers in high-level international journals such as Cell Research and Cancer Cell; Editor in chief and co editor of 116 textbooks by People's Health Publishing House, Science Publishing House, and Higher Education Publishing House; The Journal of Mudanjiang Medical College is publicly available both domestically and internationally.

The school library has a collection of 1.0237 million paper books, 754900 electronic books, and 15 databases. It has an advanced electronic book system and computer network service system.

The school has 8 affiliated hospitals and 100 practical teaching bases such as teaching hospitals and internship hospitals. The affiliated Hongqi Hospital is one of the first standardized training bases for resident physicians in China, with 1600 beds.

The school has established exchange and cooperation relationships with foreign universities such as Pacific National Medical University in Russia, University of Tennessee in the United States, and Fatima University in the Philippines.
