About the University

Kunming College of The Arts, located in Kunming, Yunnan Province, is a full-time private higher vocational college approved by the People's Government of Yunnan Province and registered with the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China, providing specialised tertiary education. It serves as a training base for the CCTV Young Singer TV Competition and a base for the protection and inheritance of Yunnan Province's intangible cultural heritage. In 1986, the predecessor of the college, Nie Er Music School, was established. In 2001, it was upgraded to a general art college with the approval of the People's Government of Yunnan Province and registration with the Ministry of Education. In 2006, the college passed the Ministry of Education's talent training work level assessment. In 2011, it was listed by the Yunnan Provincial Department of Education as a "pilot school for comprehensive talent training reform," pioneering in applied undergraduate talent training. As of February 2025, the college has two campuses, namely the High-tech Campus and the Shilin Campus, with leased land covering an area of 233,380.42 square metres. The college has 8 teaching faculties and offers 42 specialised courses. The total value of college fixed assets is 31.804 million yuan; there are 196 full-time teachers; and 248,638 paper books. The college has established 2 provincial-level characteristic majors; 1 provincial-level excellent course; 22 college-level excellent courses; 2 experimental training bases supported by the Ministry of Education and central finance; 1 provincial-level internship and training base, and the construction of 10 large-scale college-level training centres. As of May 2025, the number of students enrolled is 4,362.

        Art Programme Characteristics:

 The college consists of eight teaching units, including Nie Er Music College, School of Performing Arts and School of Media, offering 42 specialised programmes such as music performance, environmental art design, and journalism and production. Among these, music performance, environmental art design, and journalism and production are listed as key development directions. 

      Teaching Resources :

The college possesses a national-level vocational education experimental training demonstration base (arts and design direction) and a provincial-level demonstration internship and training teaching base for higher vocational colleges in Yunnan (media direction), equipped with professional recording studios, musical instruments and other advanced facilities, and regularly invites industry experts for academic exchanges. 

      Teaching Achievements :

In the past five years, teachers and students have won 49 national awards and 150 provincial and ministerial awards, performing particularly well in dance and music competitions. Graduates have shown excellent employment performance at units such as Yunnan Radio and Television Station and Kunming Radio and Television Station. 

        Social Recognition :

As the first private vocational art college in Yunnan Province, the college has been designated as a "Pilot School for Comprehensive Talent Training Reform in Yunnan Province" and has received titles such as "CCTV Young Singer Television Competition Training Base" and "Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection and Inheritance Base".
