Jinling Institute of Technology

Jinling Institute of Technology (JIT), located in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, offers full-time undergraduate and postgraduate courses in advanced science and technological fields. The university structures itself upon the strategic research of the reform pilot of the Ministry of Education on application-oriented universities of science and technology. The university is the founding unit of the Association of Universities (Colleges) of Applied Science and chairs the Alliance of Applied Undergraduate Universities in the Yangtze River Delta Region. In 2021, JIT was approved as a master’s degree awarding institution. Its predecessor was Jinling Polytechnic University, which was founded in 1980 as the first vocational university in China, and Nanjing Agricultural College, which was founded in 1958 and rebuilt in 1984. In June 2002, approved by the Ministry of Education, Jiangsu Provincial Government and Nanjing Municipal government, Jinling Polytechnic University and Nanjing Agricultural College were amalgamated into Jinling Institute of Technology. Jinling Institute of Technology (JIT) was officially established in March 2005.

JIT has 3 campuses, Jiangning campus (the main campus), Mufu campus and Baixia campus. Jiangning campus is located in Jiangning university town, in the south of Nanjing. JIT covers 1,016,400 square meters, including a construction area of 657,200 square meters. JIT owns 2.796 billion RMB in assets, of which the value of teaching and research equipment is 509 million RMB. There are more than 20,000 full-time undergraduates and around 100 postgraduates. JIT has established 20 secondary schools, faculties and colleges, including School of Marxism Studies, School of Business, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, College of Intelligent Science and Control Engineering, School of Architectural Engineering, School of Software Engineering, School of Cyber Security, School of Computer Engineering, School of Electronics and Information Engineering, Faculty of Network and Telecommunication Engineering, Academy of Arts, Animation College, School of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture, School of Animal Science and Food Engineering, Faculty of Material Engineering, College of Foreign Languages, College of Science, International Education College, and Department of Physical Education. 

3 professional master’s degree authorization points have been set up, including electronic information, civil engineering and water conservancy, and accounting. JIT has established 65 undergraduate programs in Economics, Literature, Engineering, Agronomy, Management, Art and Science. Urban and Rural Planning, Software Engineering, Horticultural Science, Business Administration and Design Science have been awarded “Key Disciplines” at the Provincial Level in Jiangsu. 15 of the programs, including Computer Science and Applied Economics, have been awarded as “Key Disciplines” at the Municipal Level (including 2 Cultivate disciplines). Accounting is one of the National Characteristic Specialty Construction Programs. There are 8 National First-class Undergraduate Program Construction Sites, including Software Engineering, Fashion and Costume Design, Accounting, Tourism Management, Electrical and Intelligent Building, Animation, Computer Science and Technology, and Environmental Design. 23 of the programs including Materials Science and Engineering, Electronic Information Engineering, Animal Medicine, Accounting and Classical Philology, are Provincial First-class Undergraduate Program Construction Sites. The programs of Software Engineering, Animation, Accounting, Building Electricity, and Intelligence are the first-period Jiangsu Provincial Brand Programs. The program categories of Machinery, Civil Engineering, Business Management, and Design are Provincial Key Program Categories. Accounting, Fashion Design and Engineering, Animation, and Mechanical Design, Manufacturing and Automation are Provincial Specialty Programs. Materials Science and Engineering is the pilot program under the Outstanding Engineer Education Training Plan of the Ministry of Education. Telecommunication Engineering and Software Engineering are Provincial Outstanding Software Engineer Education & Training Programs. 9 courses were selected as the first batch of National First-class Undergraduate Courses, and 27 courses were recognized as the first batch of Provincial First-class Undergraduate Courses. There are 2 Professional Comprehensive Reform Pilot Projects of Ministry of Education, 3 Provincial Excellent Teaching Teams, 1 Provincial Excellent Science and Technology Innovation Team, 2 Provincial Key Laboratories for University Construction, 1 Provincial Experimental Base for Innovation of Talent Training Mode in Higher Education, 1 Provincial Key Industrial College Construction Site, 5 Provincial Experimental Teaching Demonstration Centers and 4 Provincial Practical Education Centers (including construction sites).

JIT constantly strengthens the internal training and external introduction of talents and strives to build a highly qualified faculty that meets the high requirements of cultivating application-oriented talents. There are around 1,300 full-time teachers, including 156 with senior titles, one double-appointed academician, and 5 (honorary) professors. There are also several State Council Special Allowance Recipients, National Outstanding Teachers, Jiangsu Prominent Teachers, Jiangsu Provincial Young Experts of Outstanding Achievement, Jiangsu Provincial Training Targets of Project 333, New Talents of Cyan Project, Talents of Jiangsu Province “Six Talent Peaks”, Talents of Jiangsu Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Nanjing Top Middle-aged and Young Talents, Zijin Talents and Nanjing Labor Models.

Adhering to the school motto of Virtue and Prosperity and sticking to the talent cultivation ideas of “Demand-oriented, Ability-based, Unity of Knowledge and Action, Focusing on Innovation”, JIT deepens the integration of industry and education and enhances cooperation with enterprises. JIT also actively innovates to cultivate talents with high-quality applied, interdisciplinary and entrepreneurial skills in line with local economic and social development needs. 

JIT has been leading its counterparts in China to construct online courses, among which 6 courses have been approved as National Excellent Online Open Courses. 53 of these courses have been launched on the Chinese University MOOC (Massive Open Online Courses) platform, and 50 online courses have been launched on the Chinese University UOOC (University Open Online Courses) platform. JIT has won the second prize in the National Teaching Achievement Award, 2 first prizes and 12 second prizes in the Provincial Teaching Achievement Award. JIT actively responds to the national call of “mass entrepreneurship and innovation” and vigorously supports the entrepreneurial practice of teachers and students. 

Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology has accredited JIT Chuangkehui as a mass innovation space at the national level. Several national high-tech, local technology-based, and provincial private science and technology enterprises have been used as sources of innovation. In recent years, the employment rate of JIT has remained above 96%, accumulating more than 128,000 applied talents for society. Employers generally praise graduates, and many graduates have become the backbone of local economic and social development. 

As its first priority, JIT attaches great importance to scientific and technological development, which takes the scientific and technological innovation platform as the carrier. Further, it takes the strategic emerging industry as forward-looking technology research and development, focusing on the patent application and technology industrialization and striving to enhance the research and development of science and technology and service capabilities.

In the past three years, JIT has obtained more than 1300 authorized patents and undertaken nearly 1800 scientific research projects. The university is supported by the National Natural Science Foundation and the National Social Science Fund. Almost 50 scientific and technological achievements have won provincial and municipal science and technology progress awards and philosophy and social science research outstanding achievements awards. 

JIT actively cooperates with the government, research institutes and enterprises to collaborate with a high benchmark, in multiple forms and on numerous levels. JIT has built 73 industry-university-research science and technology platforms at or above the municipal level, such as Jiangsu Provincial Information Analysis Engineering Laboratory. A series of scientific and technological achievements have been industrialized and achieved good economic and social benefits. The brand effect of social service has been continuously enhanced, such as Strong Agriculture and Enrichment Project in Jiangsu Province, Jiangsu Legal Aid Project, Nanjing Entrepreneur Intellectual Property Training Program and Nanjing Agricultural Science and Education Lecturer Group.

JIT has been awarded the Advanced Unit of Jiangsu Strong Agriculture and Enrichment Project in County and National Harvest Award in Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Fishery: Agricultural Technology Promotion and Cooperation Award. JIT Lecturer Group of Agricultural Science and Education has won the award of National Popular Lifelong Learning Project.

Attaching great importance to foreign exchange and cooperation, JIT actively cooperates with offshore universities in promoting the reform of education and teaching. Since 1995, JIT has been cooperating with universities in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, France, Austria, Holland, USA, UK, Russia, Taiwan (China) and Macao (China). Currently, JIT has four Chinese-Foreign Cooperatively-run programs approved by the Ministry of Education, including JIT-SUNY (USA) Horticulture (Biotechnology), JIT-QUT (Australia) Software Engineering, JIT-DMU (UK) Telecommunication Engineering, and JIT-GCU (UK) Civil Engineering.

College of International Education (CIE) is one of the second-level colleges of Jinling Institute of Technology (JIT)that responsible for the operation of Sino-foreign cooperative education programs and international educational exchange programs. CIE activelyrespondtothenational higher education internationalization development strategy, commits itself to promoting the development of international education ofJIT,and actively cooperates with offshore universities in promoting the reform of education and teaching.CIE has established cooperative relations with universities in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, France, Austria, the Netherlands, the United States, the United Kingdom, Russia and other countries, and has built a multi-functional international education cooperation and exchange platform for JIT.

Currently, CIE has four Sino-foreignjoint programs approved by the Ministry of Education, including JIT-SUNY (USA) Horticulture (Biotechnology), JIT-QUT (Australia) Software Engineering, JIT-DMU (UK) Telecommunication Engineering, and JIT-GCU (UK) Civil Engineering.With high quality and good social reputation, all of these programs have passed the qualification assessment of Sino-foreign cooperative education by the Ministry of Education.In addition to JIT-GCU (UK) Civil Engineering, the other three programs have been evaluated by Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education as the “13th Five-Year Plan”high-level demonstration construction programs, and “Sino-USA Joint Laboratory of Horticultural Biotechnology” is a joint scientific research project for Sino-US cooperation in running university in Jiangsu Province.

The Sino-foreign joint programs are oriented to the key fields of international competition and the needs of the social employment market. CIE collects the high-quality educational resources of Chinese and foreign universities, imparts students with international standards and industry-leading professional knowledge, cultivates students’ intercultural communication ability, and enhancesstudents’ international competitiveness and social adaptability.Since 2003, 1,445 students under these programs have graduated with double diplomas, and more than 85% of the graduates have been admitted to the world’s top 100 universities as postgraduates.

CIE has frequent cooperation and exchanges with universities in Australia, Russia, Taiwan(China) and Macau(China). More than 20 students that major in Accountinghave been selectedQueensland University of Technology to carry out intercollegiate oriented cooperative training. More than 200 students are selected to Taiwan(China) and Macau(China) for credit exchange and study. Nearly 100studentsare recommendedto Macau University of Science and Technologyto pursue postgraduate study. 22students are recommended toBunin Yelets State University, Voronezh State University of Engineering Technologies and Voronezh State University of Forestry and Technologiesto pursue postgraduate study.CIE accept 5students from Hong Kong(China), Macau(China) and Taiwan(China) and 3 students from the Philippines for credit exchange and learning.
