Jiangxi University of Applied Science and Technology was founded in 1984 and is a full-time undergraduate university approved by the Ministry of Education. In 2018, it was approved as a bachelor's degree granting authority unit, and in 2024, it passed the qualification assessment of undergraduate teaching work by the Ministry of Education, and is the first batch of pilot undergraduate universities for application-oriented transformation and development in Jiangxi Province and the first batch of pilot universities for education reform of the Jiangxi Provincial People's Government.

The school is located in Nanchang, the capital of Jiangxi Province, covering an area of 1,105,600 square meters, and has more than 19,000 full-time students. The teaching and administrative space covers an area of 277,800 square meters, and the total value of teaching and scientific research equipment is more than 170 million yuan. The library has 1,852,800 paper books and nearly 1,470,000 electronic books. It has built a number of experimental training bases including central and provincial financial support, as well as a number of teaching laboratories such as demonstration training bases for private universities in Jiangxi Province and Nanchang Key Laboratory, and has been selected as the fifth batch of "Kirin Workshop" training bases of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
