Jiangxi University of Technology is a full-time private general undergraduate university that focuses on engineering, management, and art, and has coordinated development of multiple disciplines. It has the nationally recognized qualifications for issuing unified enrollment and junior college diplomas, and has the right to confer bachelor's degrees. The predecessor of the university was the Jiangxi Senior Vocational university founded in 1994. In 1999, it was approved by the Ministry of Education to become a general higher vocational college and was renamed Blue Sky Vocational and Technical College. In 2005, it was upgraded to a general undergraduate college and renamed Jiangxi Blue Sky College. In 2009 It was approved as a bachelor's degree-granting unit and was renamed Jiangxi University of Science and Technology in 2012.

The university is located in Nanchang, a famous historical and cultural city in Jiangnan and the capital city of Jiangxi Province, which enjoys the reputation of "Hero City". The campus covers an area of more than 2,000 acres, with a construction area of about 850,000 square meters, a digital library of 33,000 square meters, and a collection of more than 2.3 million books. The university currently has 30,000 full-time students and 2,000 faculty members, including 1,369 full-time teachers.
