Jiangsu Health Vocational College

Located in Nanjing, the capital of Jiangsu Province, Jiangsu Health Vocational College is the only state-run higher vocational college of medicine at the provincial level in Nanjing, and a construction unit of provincial demonstration college, subordinated to the Health and Family Planning Committee of Jiangsu Province (the former Public Health Department of Jiangsu Province).

Located at the foot of Laoshan Mountain, the new campus in Pukou of the college is an ecological one in the style of “Natural Forest Oxygen Bar”, blessed with pleasant sceneries, fresh and clean air, bird and cicada chirps, and unity of man and nature. Along with the successive launch of express buses and the No. 10 Metro Line, and the continuous stretch of public bicycles and other convenient services to the campus, the new campus of the college in Pukou enjoys convenient traffic utility and a complete set of auxiliary facilities for daily life. Apartment-style student dorms are equipped with air-conditioners, water heaters, etc. Three standardized student dining halls offer nutritional fast food and snacks of various flavors, with rich varieties, low prices and a high quality. A modernized and digitalized library has a collection of more than 400,000 books and more than 700 varieties of journals in Chinese and foreign languages.        

The college enjoys advantageous schooling conditions and advanced experimental devices. As an institution of higher learning aiming at bringing up high-quality talents oriented to medical skills, the college always persists in combining theoretical teaching and practical training, and attaches great importance to the construction and input of experimental teaching links. The college has set up national, provincial and collegiate centers of on-campus experiments and training, and 211 bases of off-campus practice and college-enterprise cooperation; a total of over 200 attached hospitals, teaching hospitals, practice and training bases and employment bases.

The college has a first-rate contingent of teachers covering all majors of medicine and health and consisting of famous experts , a doctoral supervisor, 45.9%, 50% and 80% of whom are senior technical title holders, teachers with either a Master’s or Doctoral Degree and double-certificated teachers respectively. The college has more than 700 full-time and part-time teachers.  

The college is the only higher vocational college of public health with Chinese Medicine characteristics in our province. In order to better meet the development demand of national and Jiangsu public health service, the college always adheres to the schooling guideline of “moderate scale, top quality, emphasis on characteristics and dislocated development”.

So far, the college has set up several groups of medicine and health majors (with a total of more than 20 majors and directions), including clinical medicine, nursing, rehabilitative healthcare, pharmacy, medical imaging technology, inspection technology, health information and management. Therein, two majors, i.e. “nursing” and “rehabilitative therapy technology” have been designated as key national majors of higher vocational education; “Group of Nursing Majors” and “Group of Pharmacy Majors” have been designated as “group of majors for emphatic development in Jiangsu Province”;the major of “rehabilitative therapy technology”has also been appraised as “a brand major among colleges and universities in Jiangsu Province”.

By relying on its industrial advantage, Jiangsu Health Vocational College undertakes other relevant important jobs of the provincial Public Health and Family Planning Committee, which constitutes a relationship of mutual promotion with schooling. 1. The training of grass-root health management cadres throughout the province; 2. Jiangsu General Medicine Training Center of the provincial Public Health and Family Planning Committee is located at our college, which has successively undertaken provincial general medicine training, job-transfer training of general medical practitioner and community nurse training tasks since 1999. 3. The Provincial Medical Qualification Test Office of the provincial Public Health and Family Planning Committee is located at our college, undertaking relevant jobs of medical qualification tests throughout the province; 4. The training of heads of township health centers and directors of community health service centers;  5. The Information Center of the college (Jiangsu Medical Information Research) undertakes medical novelty search consultancy and retrieval service, as a designated unit of novelty search and retrieval of the Ministry of Public Health of China, the provincial Department of Science and Technology and the provincial Public Health and Family Planning Committee. The college has a Compilation Department, sponsoring 2 national academic journals: China Cancer Surgery and Foreign Medicine (Health Economy).  

For many years, our college has brought up more than 50,000 key cadres of medical treatment and public health, and more than 10,000 grass-root leading cadres of medical treatment and public health, promoted the educational degree of more than 10,000 in-service employees, and made positive contribution to the medical and health undertakings of Jiangsu and China at large.
