Located in the historically and culturally renowned city of Changsha, with Yuelu Mountain in the south and Xiangjiang River in the east, Hunan University of Technology and Business (HUTB) is a multi-disciplinary university with distinctive characteristics and mutually-supporting coordinately developing disciplines in economics, management, engineering, science, law, literature, art, inter-discipline and other disciplines. As one of the first-batch group to enroll students in the province, the university has been appraised by the Ministry of Education as “Excellence” in the undergraduate teaching quality evaluation, and construction unit for doctorate conferment. It is also awarded as an Applied University of National Industry-Education Integrated Development Project in the 13th Five-Year Plan, one of the national first-batch top 100 “Model Universities in Deepening Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Reform”, the “National Innovation and Entrepreneurship Base of Practical Education”, and one of the national top 50 universities for typical innovation and entrepreneurship experience. In 1999, the university began master degree programs. Six first-level disciplines came on the list of the “Best Chinese Subjects Ranking” issued by Shanghai Ranking for two consecutive years, of which the Management and Engineering belongs to the top 10%, ranking 1st and 2nd respectively in the province.

Founded in 1949, the university covers an area of about 1432.08 mu and a floorage of over 550,000 square meters. There are teaching facilities and scientific research equipment with a total value of RMB 180 million, as well as a library collection of over 2 million books. Currently, there are 23 schools (departments) and 115 scientific research institutes. The number of full-time students has reached more than 20,000. 4 disciplines are approved by the authorities to offer doctoral degree programs, 11 first-level disciplines have master degree programs, 15 disciplines have professional master degree programs, and 2 disciplines are provincial “double first-class” disciplines. There are 1 national center for basic science, 1 state key laboratory (cultivation), 4 provincial key laboratories, 1 Changsha artificial intelligence social laboratory, a major S&T innovation platform, 2 provincial 2011 collaborative innovation centers, 2 provincial engineering research centers, 1 provincial international cooperative base of scientific and technological innovation, 1 provincial professional characteristic think tank, 1 academician expert workstation, 7 provincial social science research bases, 4 provincial key research bases for philosophy and social sciences of higher education, 1 provincial higher education demonstration base of industry-education-research cooperation, 1 provincial educational science research base, 2 provincial social science innovation research bases, 1 provincial social science popularization base, 2 provincial science and technology innovation teams of higher education, 1 provincial research base for the consciousness of the Chinese nation community, and 1 provincial research base for the Party’s innovation theory. The university offers 67 undergraduate programs, including 10 national first-class undergraduate program construction points, 20 provincial first-class undergraduate program construction points, 2 “First-Category Featured Majors Construction Programs” and 1 “Second-Category Featured Major Construction Program” by the Ministry of Education, 1 national pilot program for comprehensive reform of majors, 5 provincial pilot programs for comprehensive reform of majors, 5 provincial key majors, 2 provincial funded construction majors, and 9 provincial featured majors. Moreover, the university has won a second prize of national teaching achievement, and has 1 construction program for “Talent Cultivation Mode Innovation Pilot Zone” initiated by the Ministry of Education, 3 national first-class courses, 2 national quality courses, 1 national quality resource sharing course, 80 provincial first-class courses, 2 provincial ideological and political demonstration courses, 10 provincial quality courses, 4 provincial teaching teams, 36 provincial practical teaching platforms, and 8 provincial excellent practical teaching bases. In 2016, it started the overall cooperation with Xiangjiang New District, Hunan. There are 1,780 faculty members and 1,316 full-time teachers, including 153 professors, 279 associate professors, 609 teachers with doctoral degrees.

Based on the motto of “Sincerity and Credibility; Pragmatism and Innovation”, the university abides by high moral values and student-oriented education as the fundamental task. Focusing on teaching, it sticks to cultivating application-oriented senior specialized talents with solid foundation, high comprehensive quality, strong practical ability, keen market awareness and innovative spirit. Among the students, Xiao Xia, the “Most Beautiful Hunan Girl”, has been taking care of the widows of expeditionary soldiers every day for 18 years. She and Xu Shoubao, the “Hunan Good Person”, along with other 4 students, came on the list of “2017 Hunan Top 10 Educational Figures”. The university recruits students from 31 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions of the whole country. In recent years, the graduates have realized a steady annual employment rate of over 97%, and made great contribution to the local economic and social development. The university has been extending its international exchange and cooperation increasingly and established international cooperative relations and exchanges with more than 20 universities and research institutions from Ireland, Netherlands, USA, UK, France, Italy, South Korea, etc.
