Located in Zhengzhou City, Henan Province, Henan University of Economics and Law is located in the hinterland of China, the thoroughfare of nine states, adjacent to the Yellow River in the north and Song Shan in the west.

The university was founded in 1948. There are three campuses, namely Zhengdong Campus, Wenbei Campus and Wennan Campus, covering an area of more than 2,000 mu and a total construction area of more than 1.1 million square meters. The library has a total of 11.026 million volumes (species) of literature resources, including 2.5885 million volumes of paper literature and 8.437 million species of electronic resources. There are 13 national-level first-class undergraduate major construction points in statistics, business administration and human resources management; there are three national-level first-class undergraduate courses: "International Air Cargo Export Customs Clearance Virtual Simulation Experimental Teaching Program", "Frontiers of Statistical Thought and Discipline" and "History of Foreign Legal System". The catechism course "Aesthetic Education in University" has been adopted by the Chinese Ministry of Propaganda and Henan Learning Platform, and taken by more than 400,000 students in more than 400 colleges and universities nationwide, making the construction of the university's aesthetic education courses in the forefront of national universities. The "Modern Service Industry Discipline Cluster" and "Applied Economics" were selected as the special backbone discipline construction disciplines (cluster) in Henan Province. There are 10 provincial key disciplines in philosophy, theoretical economics, applied economics, law, Marxist theory, geography, management science and engineering, business administration, agriculture and forestry economic management, urban and rural planning, and 2 provincial key secondary disciplines in ancient Chinese literature and computer application technology.

The university has built 7 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centres, and is a provincial base for training excellence in law and a provincial base for training excellence in engineers. In the past three years, students have won nearly 1,500 national awards in national subject competitions and innovative skills competitions. The university has an undergraduate tutor system and monographs such as "Research on Retirement Behaviour and Retirement Age" and "Fertility Behaviour and Fertility Policy", which were written with undergraduate students as the main contributors, have attracted strong reactions from the society. Based on serving the local economic and social development, the university has established sound scientific research institutions and emerged a number of original, iconic and cutting-edge research results. The university has 21 provincial-level think tanks and research bases, including the Government Economic Development and Social Management Innovation Research Centre, the China (Henan) Pilot Free Trade Zone Research Institute, the Supreme People's Procuratorate Judicial Case Study Base, the Henan Collaborative Innovation Centre for Coordinated Urban-Rural Development, the Henan Collaborative Innovation Centre for Modern Service Industry and the Henan Economic Research Centre. In recent years, it has undertaken nearly 200 national research projects and nearly 1,000 provincial and ministerial research projects; in 2020, it achieved a breakthrough in major projects of the National Social Science Foundation; it has published more than 500 academic books and won more than 80 scientific research achievements awards at the provincial and ministerial levels. Teachers of the university presided over or participated in the drafting and revision of many national and local laws and regulations, served as legal advisory experts for local state organs, and handled more than a hundred legal aid cases for the society every year. The university has expanded its education to the outside world and established extensive cooperation with universities and cultural and educational institutions in the United States, the United Kingdom, Russia, Ireland, Canada, Italy, Malaysia, Singapore, India, Thailand, Serbia and other countries. The university has increased its efforts to send visiting scholars and actively selected outstanding key teachers to study abroad to enhance the internationalisation of teachers.
