The college was founded in 1975 and has gone through the periods of Henan Coal Mining School, Jiaozuo Coal Industry School, Henan Engineering and Technology School, and Henan University of Technology Higher Vocational College. In 2001, with the consent of the Henan Provincial Department of Education, the school cooperated with Henan University of Technology to pilot the "3 2" college class. In 2002, with the approval of the Henan Provincial Department of Education and the approval of the Henan Provincial Government, the school cooperated with Henan University of Technology to establish the Higher Vocational College of Henan University of Technology. In March 2013, with the consent of the Ministry of Education and the approval of the Henan Provincial People's Government, Henan Vocational College of Industry and Information Technology was established on the basis of divestiture from Henan University of Technology. The school is a demonstration base for teacher training and high-skilled personnel training in vocational colleges in Henan Province, and an e-commerce vocational education training base in Henan Province.
As of April 2025, the school covers an area of 777.03 acres, with a total value of teaching and scientific research equipment of 90.7272 million yuan and a collection of more than 65.61 million books.
