About the University

Heilongjiang University is located in Harbin, a famous city with beautiful scenery in northeast China. Harbin is also known as the “Moscow of the East” and the “Paris of the Orient”. Heilongjiang University used to be the Russian Team of the Third Branch of the People’s Anti-Japanese Military and Political University of China founded in 1941. Therefore, it is called the cradle of Chinese Russian talents. Also, Heilongjiang University has been one of the top 100 universities in China for many years. Heilongjiang University has been designated as a co-construction University between Heilongjiang Province and the Ministry of Education. The university covers an area of 1,910,000 square meters and has a total building area of nearly 1,160,000 square meters. The total enrolment of full time students comes to over 35,000. There are about 5,000 students involved in masters of doctorate courses and there are a further 1500 international students every year. There are a total of 11 faculties’ disciplines: Philosophy, Economics, Law, Education, Liberal Art, History, Science, Engineering, Agriculture and Management covering 84 specialties. The university has the right to confer bachelor, master and doctor degrees. Heilongjiang University always adheres to the development of characteristics, strengthens the dominant position and leading role of the Russian subject profession, and realizes the all-round connection with Russia in the direction of talent training, scientific research, foreign exchange and cooperation, and social services, forming a unique feature of running a university in the country. Jointly established with the Russian National University of Novosibirsk, the Chinese-Russian Institute, the Chinese-Russian Joint Graduate School, are included in the national education system reform pilot school by the National Education System Reform Leading Group. The Chinese international promotion work has achieved remarkable results. It is the center of the Russian base for the Chinese language education in Northeast China. It has become an ideal university for Russian students studying in China. The Confucius Institute jointly established by Heilongjiang University and the Russian Far Eastern Federal University was awarded as the “World’s Advanced Confucius Institute” by Hanban (National Office of Chinese International Language Council). President Xi Jinping visited the Confucius Institute and gave us high recognition.

Popular Programs: Chinese Language, International Economy and Trade, English, Russian, German, French, Spanish, Electronic Information Engineering, Communication Engineering, Automation, Computer Science and Technology, Law, Tourism Management, History, Electronic Commerce, Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Engineering, History and Culture, etc. The two programs of Chinese and International Economy and Trade can accept international students who have no basis in the Chinese language. The institute provides some facilities only used by international students, for example, classrooms, audio-visual classrooms, computer rooms, reference rooms, kitchen rooms, a dining hall, a gymnasium and dormitories. Each dormitory is equipped with a bathroom, a refrigerator, a telephone, a high-speed internet line, a television etc. During non-study time, the institute schedules visits to surrounding areas of interest and also recreational activities that not only build up students’ health, but also complement their studies and promote friendships.

Heilongjiang University is a scholarship recipient institution and can accept Chinese Government Scholarships (including Shanghai Cooperation Organization University Special Scholarship, “Silk Road Scholarship: Senior Masters Training Program for Economic and Trade Talents”), Confucius Institute Scholarship and Heilongjiang Provincial Government Scholarship.
