Hebei Vocational University of Industry and Technology was founded in 1958 as a technical school of Longyan Iron and Steel Company, and was approved by the Ministry of Education as a higher vocational institution in 1999. In 2011, the school passed the acceptance of national model higher vocational institutions with "excellent" grade; in 2019, the school was confirmed as a national high-quality higher vocational school by the Ministry of Education, and in the same year, it was successfully selected as a high-level higher vocational school with Chinese characteristics, the only high-level higher vocational school with Chinese characteristics in Hebei Province. It became a public undergraduate level vocational school.

Hebei Vocational University of Industry and Technology is a national model university for party building, the only higher vocational institution in the country to pilot the comprehensive reform of "three comprehensive education", and a national pilot university to build a "one-stop" comprehensive management model for student communities. It is one of the seven colleges and universities in China that have been selected as one of the top 50 cases of internship management, teaching management and student management. It is a pilot unit of modern apprenticeship system of the Ministry of Education and the first batch of pilot institutions of mixed ownership in Hebei Province.

Located in Shijiazhuang, the capital of Hebei Province, the university has three campuses: Hongqi, Xinshi and Pingshan, with nearly 20,000 students, more than 1,000 full-time teachers and more than 500 part-time teachers employed on a long-term basis. The university offers 17 vocational undergraduate majors and 58 specialized majors, mainly focusing on the main pillar industries and special industries in Hebei. There are 2 professional clusters under the national "double-high plan", 4 provincial high-level professional clusters and 8 national backbone majors. The university keeps deepening education and teaching reform, and has built 3 national teaching resource libraries, 4 national quality resource sharing courses, 1 national quality online open course, 69 provincial quality online open courses, and 54 national 1+X certificate system pilot courses. It has won 3 national teaching achievement awards, 1 special award and 3 first-class awards of provincial teaching achievement awards.
