University emblem:

Our emblem contains rich connotations. It combines gracefulness with elegance and represents the university's distinctive features. Specifically, the meanings attached to the emblem can be seen as follows:

First, the emblem is a complete circle using the color of blue in three shades to symbolize the ocean, vividly presenting the university's strength and dedication in the fields of ship industry, ocean equipment and exploration, and nuclear application.

Second, the change in blue from a light shade in the center to a dark shade on the outskirts symbolizes that HEU shoulders the historic responsibility to assist Chinese maritime undertakings on the road from the offshore areas to the deep ocean.

Third, the Chinese words "Ha Jungong" at the top of the emblem represent the affiliation with the CPC and State, while the English name "HARBIN ENGINEERING UNIVERSITY" embodies the aspiration and determination of HEU to integrate with the world in order to establish a national elite level of talent as well as an internationally famous university. 

Fourth, the center part shows the symbolic figure of Building 31 and "1953" which is the year the PLA Military Engineering Institute was founded. They are set in a background of baby blue to create a halo effect, symbolizing that HEU has inherited the fine tradition of the PLA Military Engineering Institute and is striding into the future vigorously.

The emblem is well-designed, beautifully-colored, and truly expressive. The structure of the emblem gives a sense of wholeness, symbolizing the solidarity, cohesiveness and harmony between teachers and students, their pursuit of a bright future and also their confidence and initiative in constructing a high-level research university.

Staff and Faculty

HEU processes teaching and administrative staff of 3160 persons, including: 1804 full-time teaching staff, 395 professors, 508 associate professors. Among the highly qualified staff, there are 8 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering, 331 doctoral advisors, 108 experts enjoying special government allowances, 3 national outstanding young experts, 2 high-level talented researchers introduced from overseas, 5 "Yangtse River Scholar Bonus Programs" distinguished professors and chair professors, and 21 candidates of "Program for New Century Excellent Talents" supported by Ministry of Education. HEU has 3 national subject innovation bases for introducing talent, 2 Innovation Teams of Ministry of Education, 6 Defense Technology Innovation Teams.

There are 27614 students, including 14350 undergraduate students, 8240 postgraduate students and 856 foreign students in HEU. HEU is one of the first key universities selected in "Educating Outstanding Engineers Program". HEU is listed by the Ministry of Education and the General Political Department into "21st Century Strengthen the Army by Talents Program", which is the only university that educates Reserve MO for the navy in northeast area of China.

CICE adheres to the education philosophy “integrate quality education resources, introduce advanced education conceptions, create excellent teaching content, achieve standard and scientific management, cultivate students with high intellect and ethics”, and concentrates on teaching management, language training, textbook selection and teacher training. CICE has formed a proficient high level teaching faculty and a management team with rich experience in cooperative education, a rigorous and practical working attitude and pioneering and creative ideas.

CICE has carried out cultural exchanges and undertaken teaching programs for degree courses, as well as language training and short-term exchange with universities in Japan, Korea, Russia, Nepal, Pakistan and Thailand. In the past five years, CICE has cultivated 5653 international students from over 100 countries. CICE adheres to people-oriented conceptions and focuses on improving teaching of Chinese as a foreign language by offering different levels and mini classes. International student apartments have a rich variety of infrastructures such as kitchen, bathroom, TV, refrigerator, washing machine, telephone and access to Internet. There is a mini-supermarket and western restaurant as well.
