Guilin Institute of Aerospace Industry was founded in 1979 and was once affiliated to the Seventh Ministry of Machinery Industry, Ministry of Aerospace Industry, Ministry of Aerospace Industry, and China Aerospace Industry Corporation. In April 1999, the school was transferred to the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region to implement a management system of "co-construction between the central and local governments, with local management as the mainstay". The school was upgraded to an undergraduate institution in 2012 and was added as a bachelor degree authorized unit in December 2015. There are 16,647 full-time students, including 15,147 undergraduates.
