Guangxi University of Foreign Languages

Guangxi University of Foreign Languages (GUFL) is located in Nanning, the capital of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the permanent site of the China-ASEAN Exposition and the key city of the Guangxi Beibu Gulf Economic Zone. The University, formerly named Guangxi Dongfang Foreign Language College, was founded in June 2004 and upgraded in April 2011 to offer bachelor's programs.

The University adheres to its Mission Run the University to the Satisfaction of the People and its Motto Chinese-souled, International-minded. In the spirits of innovating and enterprising, the university has established its unique school ethos.

GUFL comprises 16 schools which include School of South-East Asian Languages & Cultures, School of European-American Languages & Cultures, School of Literature, School of International Education, School of International Economics & Trade, School of Business & Public Administration, School of Accounting, School of Arts, School of Education, School of Information Engineering, School of Marxism, School of Innovation & Entrepreneurship and so on. GUFL offers 36 undergraduate programs, including 12 foreign language majors such as Thai, Vietnamese, Cambodian, Indonesian and so on. It has more than 30,000  (Up to Sep 2021）full-time students.

GUFL has 2 campuses, Wuhe Campus and Konggang Campus, with a combined area of 1,617,351.35 square-meters, teaching buildings of 240,638.76 square-meters and dormitory buildings of 178,154.92 square-meters. The library has a storage of 1,987,200paper books.

GUFL attaches importance to the cultivating mode for applied talents. It has a  provincial grade pilot study project for construction of major groups of newly-built high education institutions, 1 provincial grade characteristic specialty, 5 provincial grade key majors for non-government undergraduate education. Since 2011, the university has undertaken 99 provincial grade teaching reform projects with 9 prizes including 1 grand prize, 1 the first-class prize， 3 second-class prize and 4 third-class prizes. With commitment to the goal to cultivate applied professional talents with patriotic sentiments, international perspective, solid specialty foundation, strong practical innovative capabilities, virtue, wisdom, fitness and goodness, the university has emforced its unique mode.

GUFL pays attention to cultivate students'  ability of innovation and entrepreneurship by founding the School of Innovation & Entrepreneurship, setting up the China-ASEAN Students Innovation & Entrepreneurship Park and China-ASEAN Free Trade Zone Double-track Education Base. The university won a National Innovation and Entrepreneurship Educator Team Construction Award in November, 2016. In December, 2016, GUFL was considered as National Private Universities Training Model Base for Innovation and Entrepreneurship Teacher by The Chinese Association for Non-Government Education. In 2017, the university received provincial grade grand prize of Guangxi Teaching Achievement Award in Higher Institution for the project Innovative-oriented and Entrepreneurial-oriented Personal Training Mode Research and Practice of the Management Major which Service for Guangxi Beibu Gulf Economic Construction. 

GUFL reinforces the exchanges and cooperation with universities in Taiwan by establishing cooperative relationship with 8 universities in Taiwan, undertaking the Cooperation Forum of Industrial Upgrading and Guangxi-Taiwan Cooperation, the academic exchange meetings such as Guangxi-Taiwan Private Universities Summit Forum, Guangxi-Taiwan Cooperative Education Center which awards the Guangxi Higher Education Creating Excellence Plan Project, the Integrated Construction of Guangxi-Taiwan Cooperative Major Course, opening the Guangxi-Taiwan Characteristic Class, offering Personnel and Intellectual Support for Taiwan Companies which are in Guangxi. GUFL is one of the earlier universities which promotes Guangxi-Taiwan cooperation.

GUFL pays attention to the research on regional economics and social development. The pattern dominated by foreign languages majors, literature, economics, management, art, education, and engineering multidisciplinary coordinated development was initially formed. It builds Sino-Thai Cultural Research Center with Consulate General of Thailand in Nanning and building a Gui-Tai Production, Study, Research and Usage base with Taiwan Affairs Office of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region People's Government. There are Institute of Xi Jinping New Times Socialism Thought with Chinese Characteristics Studies, Institute of South-east Asian Studies, Institute of Gui-Tai Exchange & Cooperation Studies, Institute of Guangxi Private Education Science Studies. In recent years, GUFL undertook 3 national education science projects, 3 provincial-level projects, 196 bureau-level projects. GUFL has win 1 second award of Guangxi excellent achievements in social science.

One of the university missions is to serve the regional economic and social development. More than 39,100 faculties and students have worked as volunteers for many important international activities like the China-Asean Expo, the China-Asean Commerce and Investment Summit, Nanning International Folk Song Art Festival and so on, during which they developed their comprehensive ability and their services have been commended by Guangxi Expo Affairs Bureau and the local government.

GUFL insists on opening up in running school and carries out international exchanges and cooperation actively by signing MOU with 65 famous universities in Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia, USA, Canada, Spain, Japan and so on. GUFL had carried out teachers and students exchange and practice programs. Since its establishment, GUFL had already dispatch almost 5,000 students to universities in Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia, Indonisia to exchange study and do practice. And more than 1500 internatinal students study in GUFL. According to the 2017 China Best University Rankings-Students Internationalization Rankings (International Students' Ratio) published by SOHU, International Students' Ratio of GUFL is the former list universities and the No1. in private universities in Guangxi.

GUFL implements the talents developing strategy by regarding teacher as the first resource in running school, drawing up the faculty construction plan, regarding faculty construction as the key to improving teaching level and guaranteeing teaching quality.

The International Education College of Guangxi University of Foreign Languages was established in 2013. It is co-organized with the College of Arts and is mainly responsible for the teaching management and student management of the international student program in China.

The School of International Education trains international students with academic qualifications and trains non-academic international students, focusing on students from Southeast Asian countries and taking care of other international students. Cultivate Chinese interdisciplinary professionals who can meet the needs of the modern international society, have good comprehensive qualities, and are able to engage in trade with China, diplomacy, translation, secretarial, foreign Chinese teaching and research, and other tasks. Based in the Beibu Gulf Economic Zone and facing Southeast Asian countries, we will cultivate good Chinese understanding and expression skills, systematically master Chinese professional knowledge and skills, understand China’s national conditions and Chinese culture, and adapt to the development needs of the modern international society. "Writing" professionals. Actively promote the reform of the practical teaching system, practical teaching content, practical teaching methods and practical teaching methods, and strive to improve the comprehensive quality and innovative ability of students. Let students participate in the reading, research, writing, and performance activities of the "one, two, three" reading activities of Chinese students' literary works and the "integration of vitality teaching".
