Guangxi University of Finance and Economics was established in 2004 by the merger of Guangxi College of Finance and Guangxi College of Commerce. It is a general undergraduate college of finance and economics that the People's Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region will focus on. The history of the school can be traced back to the Guangxi Commercial College established in 1960 (renamed Guangxi Commercial School in September 1962) and Guangxi Finance and Economics School established in 1963. In 1984, Guangxi Commercial College was established on the basis of Guangxi Commercial School; in 1985, Guangxi Financial College was established. In 1994, Guangxi Commercial College was renamed Guangxi Commercial College, and Guangxi Finance College was renamed Guangxi Finance College. In 2003, Guangxi School of Finance and Economics was merged into Guangxi College of Finance, Guangxi Nanning Commercial Technical School (founded in 1979) was merged into Guangxi College of Commerce; Guangxi College of Finance and Guangxi College of Commerce merged to form Guangxi Finance and Economics in 2004 College.

There are 13 secondary colleges, 1 teaching department, 55 undergraduate majors, and 1 master's degree authorization point. There are 21,989 full-time undergraduates, postgraduates, junior college students, and international students, including 21,064 undergraduates and 521 postgraduates. Undergraduates account for 88.72% of full-time students.

There are 1,272 full-time teachers, of which 518 are associate senior and above, and 376 have doctorate degrees. It has a group of leading talents in philosophy and social sciences under the national "Ten Thousand Talents Program", national cultural masters and "four batches" of talents, national candidates for the "New Century Talent Project", and the Ministry of Education's "New Century Excellent Talents Support Program" "A team of high-level talents with core candidates, experts enjoying special government allowances from the State Council, second-level professors, autonomous region-level teaching teams, and autonomous region-level teaching teachers.

Persist in opening up schools and continue to deepen and expand international exchanges and cooperation. It has established inter-school cooperative relations with more than 50 universities and educational institutions in foreign countries, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, especially with frequent exchanges with universities in ASEAN countries. There are currently 2 Sino-foreign cooperative education programs and 1 ACCA global exam test center.

The campus covers an area of 1,601,300 square meters (of which the Wuming campus is under construction), the school building area is 653,400 square meters, the total fixed assets are 1.154 billion yuan, and the assets of teaching and research equipment are 263 million yuan. The library has a building area of 43,500 square meters, 1,965,500 paper books, 2,143,800 e-books, and 55 Chinese and foreign databases.

Guangxi University of Finance and Economics established the International Exchange Center in 2006, and in 2011 established the International Education College on the basis of the International Exchange Center.

The college currently has 2 Sino-foreign cooperative education programs (Sino-Australian Accounting Bachelor, Sino-US International Business Bachelor), 3 inter-school exchange programs (Sino-UK Accounting Bachelor, Sino-US Accounting Bachelor, Sino-French Accounting Bachelor), and 1 innovative experiment Class (ACCA International Accounting Experimental Class).

The college has 3 departments (International Accounting Department, International Economics and Trade Department, and Foreign Chinese Language Training Center). There are 60 faculty members, including 40 full-time teachers and 20 administrative staff. 4 professors, 14 associate professors, 14 PhDs, 11 PhD candidates, 39 teachers with overseas experience, 1 is a national accounting leader, 1 is a candidate for the Guangxi University Excellent Talent Funding Program, 3 is an Australian CPA, and 1 British Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), 5 are Chinese CPAs, 1 is a Chinese registered asset appraiser, 1 is a top-notch accounting talent in Guangxi, and 1 is a school-level teaching teacher. At the same time, the college currently has 1,968 full-time ordinary students, including 1,878 undergraduates and 90 junior college students.

The college attaches great importance to the construction of a service-oriented and innovative scientific research system, and the teaching reform is closely integrated with scientific research. Since its establishment, the college's scientific research team has continued to grow, scientific research funding has steadily increased, and scientific research results have been continuously enriched, forming a scientific research innovation team that serves the economy and society and has increasingly enriched research results. In the past 5 years, the college has established 24 educational reform projects (including 7 provincial and ministerial educational reform projects. Published 5 textbooks, published 33 educational reform papers, and won 3 autonomous region and school-level teaching achievement awards), and 36 scientific research projects in the college. Projects (including 7 national-level projects such as the National Social Science Fund project, 13 provincial and ministerial-level projects. Obtained 8 software patents, published 5 monographs, and published 47 papers in secondary and tertiary journals).

In recent years, the college has closely focused on the characteristics of disciplines, strengthened personnel training, and continuously improved the overall quality of students. Graduates have been favored by employers, and graduates have gone abroad to study for graduate school and have continuously set new heights for employment. Since 2015, the employment rate of graduates has reached more than 90%, and the postgraduate study rate accounts for more than 40% of the school’s postgraduate study rate each year. The quality of employment is high. Graduates have been employed by the world's four largest accounting firms such as Price water house Coopers and KPMG.
