Guangxi Water Conservancy and Electric Power College is located in Nanning, the capital of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and known as the "Green City of China". It is under the jurisdiction of the Department of Water Resources of the Autonomous Region and is a public full-time higher vocational school mainly focusing on engineering disciplines such as water conservancy and electric power, and supplemented by liberal arts disciplines such as economics and management. Adhering to the school motto of "The highest good is like water, self-improvement never ceases", the school is based in Guangxi, serves ASEAN, and faces the whole country, striving to provide leading and people-satisfying higher vocational education in China.
It has a profound accumulation in running schools. The school was founded in 1956 and was originally named Nanning Water Conservancy School. In 1970, it was renamed Guangxi Hydropower School. In 2002, it was upgraded to Guangxi Water Conservancy and Electric Power Vocational and Technical College. In 2005, it became the first school in Guangxi to be rated as excellent in the talent work assessment of higher vocational colleges by the Ministry of Education. In the same year, it was designated as one of the first batch of demonstration higher vocational colleges in Guangxi for construction. In 2008, it was included in the list of national demonstration colleges for higher vocational education in water conservancy. In 2016, it was established as a national demonstration (backbone) higher vocational college and entered the ranks of advanced higher vocational education in China. In 2022, it successfully passed the construction acceptance of Guangxi's "Double High Plan" and was awarded an excellent grade. In 2023, it was successfully selected as A Class A school for the new round of high-level vocational colleges and professional construction in Guangxi, and was approved as one of the top 50 vocational colleges in the western region in terms of talent cultivation, service contribution, and industry-education integration.
The industry has distinct characteristics. The school adheres to the principle of promoting education through industry and invigorating industry through education. It has three campuses: chang堽, lijian and liangqing. The school has a strong atmosphere of vocational education and has established the first batch of high-level specialties in Guangxi, such as water conservancy and hydropower construction engineering and power system automation, as its main body. A professional cluster featuring high-quality and distinctive specialties such as intelligent manufacturing, information technology, economic management, intelligent buildings, automatic control, and new energy vehicles, developing in multiple wings and advancing in a coordinated manner. There are currently 11 secondary colleges, offering 56 junior college programs and 5 joint undergraduate programs. Among them, there are 4 national key programs, 3 backbone programs, and 2 modern apprenticeship system pilot programs. There are 2 national-level production-oriented training bases and 13 autonomous regional-level vocational education demonstration training bases. There are over 23,000 full-time students on campus.
The teaching staff is strong. The school currently has over 1,500 full-time and part-time teachers. Centering on teacher development, the school and enterprises have jointly implemented the "Young Geese, Wild Geese, and Leading Geese" tiered teacher training program, thus building a high-level dual-qualified teacher team that is both morally and technically excellent and skilled in teaching and training. At present, there is 1 national teacher teaching innovation team, 1 national course-based ideological and political teaching team, and 35 teaching teams including the Huang Danyan-style teaching team and the High-level Innovation Team of Guangxi Colleges and Universities. It has a group of high-level talents such as national model teachers, New Era Vocational school masters of the Ministry of Education, National course-based Ideological and Political Teaching masters, and advanced workers in the national water conservancy system. In the past five years, I have won two national vocational education Teaching Achievement Awards, two National Textbook Construction Awards, and six national planning textbooks for vocational education during the 14th Five-Year Plan period. I have also led the construction of five national-level online excellent courses and won 11 national awards in the National Vocational College Teachers' Teaching Ability Competition, ranking first in Guangxi and among the top in the country.
The educational achievements are remarkable. The school adheres to the fundamental task of fostering virtue and nurturing talent. Through the implementation of a series of projects including "quality improvement, craftsmanship cultivation, model reform, innovation and entrepreneurship, and three-dimensional channels", it has cultivated a group of high-quality technical and skilled talents who possess professional qualities, humanistic sentiments, innovative capabilities, and broad horizons. In the past five years, students have won 368 national awards in various competitions and 238 awards in the Guangxi Vocational College Skills Competition, including 50 first prizes. The professional coverage rate of skills competitions is 100%. A total of 421 awards at or above the municipal and departmental level were won in innovation and entrepreneurship competitions, including 42 gold awards in the Guangxi regional competition.
The integration of industry and education is close. The school has always regarded school-enterprise cooperation and integration of industry and education as the main channel for running the school. It has established the Guangxi Water Conservancy and Electric Power National Demonstration Vocational Education Group with over 500 domestic and foreign enterprises such as China Energy Engineering Group and Huawei Technologies Co., LTD. It has jointly built eight industry colleges including Bagui Water Conservancy, Baiyue Electric Power, Baoying Construction, Zhongrui Automobile and Houpu Software. We have carried out cooperation in many aspects such as talent cultivation, technological collaboration, joint construction of bases, and employee training, and established a new ecosystem for the coordinated development of industry and education that is vertically integrated, deeply fused, and supply-demand matched.
International exchanges are extensive. The school actively responds to the "Belt and Road Initiative", takes the lead in establishing the China-Asean Energy Vocational Education Alliance, and actively conducts exchanges and cooperation with ASEAN countries in areas such as skills training, talent cultivation, and cultural exchange. Five overseas educational programs and bases, including the China-Cambodia Green Energy Modern Craftsmen College and the "Guishui Workshop", have been established. "Chinese Language + Vocational Skills" training has been carried out, and nearly 5,000 skilled talents from ASEAN countries have been trained.
Over the past 69 years of its establishment, the school has produced more than 140,000 high-quality technical and skilled talents, who are now active across the country, fulfilling the mission and responsibility of major national equipment.
