Guangdong University of Education is a general undergraduate university in Guangdong Province. Its predecessor was Guangdong Education Administration university founded in 1955, and its name was changed to Guangdong Education university in 1960. In the same year, Guangdong Industrial and Agricultural Normal university was merged into it. In 1982, it was identified as a provincial adult normal undergraduate university, and began to offer adult normal undergraduate education in the same year, general junior university education in 1985, and general undergraduate education from 1990 to 2008. In 2010, approved by the Ministry of Education, it was restructured into an ordinary undergraduate university and renamed Guangdong No. 2 Teachers university. In 2014, it obtained the right to grant bachelor's degree, passed the undergraduate teaching qualification assessment of the Ministry of Education in 2018, was approved as a master's degree project construction unit in 2021, and was selected as the second batch of pilot universities of the Ministry of Education to promote the construction of teachers in the same year.
