Guangdong Polytechnic of Water Resources and Electric Engineering is a provincial public full-time vocational college with distinctive industry characteristics. Founded in 1952 as Guangzhou Civil and Hydraulic Engineering college, it was upgraded to higher vocational college in 1999. In December 2018, the college was put under the management of the Guangdong Provincial Department of Water Resources.
The college is a national "double high Plan" construction unit, a national backbone higher vocational college, a national quality water conservancy higher vocational college, a national demonstration college of water conservancy vocational education, the fourth national civilized unit, a first-class higher vocational college in Guangdong Province, and a model higher vocational college in Guangdong Province. The college has two campuses in Guangzhou Tianhe and Conghua. college of Water Conservancy Engineering, college of Power Engineering, college of Economics and Management, college of Municipal Engineering, college of Civil Engineering, college of Intelligent Manufacturing, college of Automation and Information Technology, college of Big Data and Artificial Intelligence, college of Built Environment and Design, college of Foreign Language and Foreign Trade, college of Marxism, college of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, college of International Education, college of Continuing Education, and Department of Public Courses There are 5 teaching units, covering an area of about 1500 mu, with 2.18 million books, and the total value of teaching and scientific research equipment reaches 260 million yuan. At present, there are more than 19,000 full-time students and 700 faculty members.

The college adheres to the talent training as the center, builds a talent training system with industry characteristics, integrating production and education and combining education and training, and actively cultivates students' practical ability and innovation ability. In close cooperation with well-known enterprises such as China Power Construction Water Environment Management Technology Co., LTD., China Power Construction Group Co., LTD., Huawei Technologies Co., LTD., the college and enterprise jointly build 9 characteristic industrial colleges such as Beikong Water Conservancy College, Environmental Art Industry College, Intelligent Equipment Design and Manufacturing Industry College, Intelligent Water Conservancy Industry College, and Teddy Data Intelligent Industry College. There are 15 provincial on-campus practice teaching bases for higher vocational education and 11 provincial off-campus practice teaching bases for college students jointly built by colleges and enterprises. The college was selected as the national vocational education demonstration virtual simulation training base cultivation project. In the past three years, students have won 271 national awards in various competitions and 268 awards in the professional skills competition of vocational colleges and universities in the province, and the professional coverage of skills competition is 100%.
Graduates of the college have strong practical ability, excellent industry quality and quick job adaptation, and the employment network mainly radiates to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. In recent years, the realization rate of graduation has exceeded 96%, and the professional counterpart rate is about 90%. Guangdong Polytechnic of Water Recourses and Electric Engineering(GPWE) is based in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, the cultural center and economic hub of southern China. Found in 1952, we are the only local public higher vocational institute where water recourses and electric engineering take shape.
GPWE is listed on the“Double High-level Plan”(Construction Plan
of High-level Higher Vocational Schools and Specialties with Chinese Characteristics) as well as in the top tier of its counterparts in China.
We have established cooperative relations with Holmesglen Institute of TAFE of
Australia, and Jackson College of the uS. We have built the Indonesia, Laos, Cambodia Career Education Training Center to provide technical and skill training for the local. We are within the 2015 Advanced Institute in Guangdong of International Exchanges and Cooperation and rewarded as the Top 50 Influential Schools of Asia-Pacific Vocational College in 2018 and 2019.
Opening-up to the outside world is a part of our development strategy. We welcome students from all over the world. We undertake programs for international students to expand exchange between Chinese and foreign culture.
In 2019, we had visiting students from Laos and Australia. During the study tour, students took the courses on traditional Chinese architecture and aqua cultures and experienced the rich Chinese and Guangzhou culture in the courses of Chinese calligraphy and Taiichi Boxing.
We have 5 students'canteens of distinctive flavors, while the No.4 canteen provides lslamic food.
We provide well-equipped flats for international students. Students can live in either a two-bedroom apartment or a one-bedroom one. Each room is furnished with air-conditioning,water heater, wardrobe, etc.
For international students,we provide many courses, such as Comprehensive Chinese,Chinese Listening & Speaking Skills, Spoken Chinese, Chinese Listening Skills, Chinese Character,Chinese Culture, and HSK, the course for Chinese Proficiency Test, etc.
