Gongqing College of Nanchang University is an independent college focusing on engineering, with coordinated development of multiple disciplines including economics, management, and liberal arts. Located in Gongqingcheng City, Jiangxi Province, at the southern foot of Lushan Mountain and on the bank of Poyang Lake, the college covers an area of 1,014 mu, enjoying a superior geographical location and a beautiful campus environment.

Founded in 1985, the college was originally named "Gongqing Vocational College of Jiangxi University", and its name was inscribed personally by Comrade Hu Yaobang, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China at that time. In 1991, it was renamed "Gongqing College of Jiangxi University". In 1993, the former Jiangxi University and Jiangxi University of Technology merged to form Nanchang University, and the college was then renamed "Gongqing College of Nanchang University". In 2002, with the approval of the Department of Education, the Development and Reform Commission, and the Office of Economic Restructuring of Jiangxi Province, it was restructured into a second-level college of Nanchang University by introducing social capital. In 2003, it was confirmed as an independent college after evaluation by the Ministry of Education.

Adhering to the school motto of "Cultivate Virtue, Perform Good Deeds, Cherish the Source, Forge Ahead", the college upholds the development philosophy of "Establishing the School by Quality, Strengthening the School by Talents, Prospering the School by Characteristics", and implements the educational philosophy of "Adapting to Social Needs, Integrating Industry and Education, Cultivating Outstanding Talents". Based on the characteristic industries of Gongqingcheng and the economic belt of Ganjiang New Area, focusing on the development strategies of Jiangxi and the country, and guided by employment promotion, the college has built a professional cluster with engineering as the mainstay, prioritized the development of information technology majors, and highlighted the characteristics of fashion majors. It has optimized and integrated finance and management majors to form an economics and management professional cluster with comparative advantages, gradually added new majors such as education and general health, and systematically designed and constructed a "Public Platform + Professional Module" curriculum system for professional clusters, as well as a corresponding teaching quality assurance system.

The college has six teaching units, including the School of Economics and Management, the School of Humanities, the School of Engineering and Technology, the School of Information Engineering, the School of Fashion, Art and Design, and the School of Marxism, as well as several research platforms such as the Institute of Art and Design. It currently offers 34 majors, including 24 undergraduate enrollment majors and 13 vocational majors.

The college has 436 faculty members. It actively promotes teaching reform, strengthens connotation construction, improves teaching quality, takes teaching style construction as a core task, carries out various selections of advanced models among teachers, and continuously enhances teachers' professional competence and service capabilities.

The college has a total of 10,535 undergraduate and vocational students. Teachers and students have achieved outstanding results in various national and provincial competitions. Awards include the Red Dot Concept Design Award, known as the "Oscar" of the design industry, the First Prize in the National College Students Mathematical Modeling Contest, the Gold Award in the 7th National Vatti Industrial Design Competition, the Gold Award in the Final of the "Ordifen" Cup China Underwear Design Competition, the First Prize in the National College Students Mechanical Innovation Design Competition, the First Prize in the "CETV-FLTRP Cup" Workplace English Challenge Speech Contest, the Second Prize in the National College Foreign Language Course Ideological and Political Teaching Case Competition, the Second Prize in the China Robot Competition and RoboCup Robot World Cup, and the Second Prize in the Lanqiao Cup National Software and Information Technology Professionals Competition. The passing rate of CET-4 among fresh graduates remains above 40%, and the passing rate of the National Computer Rank Examination remains above 45%. In the past five years, students have won more than 600 awards in various provincial and national scientific and technological competitions. The college boasts a high graduate employment rate and was rated "Excellent" in the evaluation of employment work for graduates of ordinary colleges and universities in Jiangxi Province from 2016 to 2018.

The college has continuously strengthened Party building, and has successively won honors such as Advanced Primary Party Organization of Colleges and Universities in Jiangxi Province, Advanced Collective of Ideological and Political Education in Colleges and Universities in Jiangxi Province, Advanced Primary Party Organization for Striving for Excellence in Nanchang University, and Advanced Working Committee of Gongqingcheng City. It also won the First Prize for Excellent Practical and Innovative Achievements in Party Building and Ideological and Political Work among Independent Colleges in Jiangxi Province. The practical teaching base of the Ideological and Political Department was approved as a provincial "Ideological and Political Course" practical teaching base in Jiangxi Province. In the 2019 annual quality assessment of ideological and political work in colleges and universities in Jiangxi Province, the college was rated Grade A. In 2020, it was awarded the title of "National Red Cross Model Unit".

The college features a fine study style and a harmonious, stable campus. It has been awarded the title of Civilized Unit of Jiujiang City and Advanced Unit of Legal Construction in Gongqingcheng City, won the title of Advanced Unit of Comprehensive Management in Gongqingcheng City for eight consecutive years, the title of Advanced Unit of Fire Protection in Nanchang University for seven consecutive years, and the title of Advanced Unit of Comprehensive Management in Nanchang University for nine consecutive years.
