

Gannan Medical University (GMU) is located in Ganzhou, a famous historical and cultural city in Jiangxi province. Organized by the People's Government of Jiangxi Province, GMU is a full-time undergraduate medical university in Jiangxi province. Professor Han Jisheng, an academician of China Science Academy, works as the honorary president of GMU. GMU was founded as Ganxian Advanced Midwifery Vocational School of Jiangxi Province in 1941, developed to Gannan Medical Technical School with College Degree authorization in 1958. And GMU was updated to an undergraduate university in 1988 and obtained the master's degree authorization from the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council in 2013. In 2019, GMU cooperated with Suzhou University and China Medical University to carry out doctoral training in clinical medicine sciences and basic medicine sciences.
GMU boasts Zhanggong Campus and Huangjin Campus, covering more than 1,873 mu. The total value of such equipment as teaching, scientific research and medical instruments is 0.305 billion Yuan. GMU has 1,375,000 books and 2,306,200 electronic books. GMU currently has more than 12,935 students. There are 854 full-time teachers, including 541 full-time staff with senior professional titles. GMU boasts 3 members of the Teaching Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education of China, 13 teachers enjoying the special allowance of the Jiangxi Province People’s Government and State Council, 7 candidates of “Ganpo Talent 555 Project”, 8 Second Grade Professors, 55 provincial talents project candidates for provincial major disciplines’ academic leaders, provincial young scientist candidates of Jinggang Star,young Jinggang Scholars, provincial “Double-Thousand Plan” & provincial Hundred-Thousand Project, 39 young and middle-aged backbone teachers,1 renowned teacher and 1 team of Ideological and Political Teaching of the Ministry of Education of China, 4 provincial teaching teams,5 provincial high-level undergraduate teaching teams,15 part-time doctoral supervisors and 572 master tutors.

GMU has fine teaching and scientific research environment. GMU has 1 Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease Prevention and Control Key Laboratory of the Ministry of Education of China, and 17 provincial research platforms, including the Central Soviet Area Medical History and Health China Strategic Research Center, the Key Laboratory of Cerebrovascular Pharmacology of Jiangxi Province, the Key Laboratory of Medical Tissue Engineering Materials and Biological Manufacturing of Jiangxi Province, etc. Besides, GMU has 1 Hakka Traditional Chinese Medicine Resource Research Branch of the National Center for Modern Engineering and Technology of Traditional Chinese Medicine, 1 Gannan Branch of the National Center for Clinical Medicine Science Research of Geriatric Diseases, 2 University Key Laboratory of Jiangxi Province, 1 University Humanities and Social Sciences Research Base of Jiangxi Province, 27 municipal science research platforms, 3 affiliated hospitals (The First Affiliated Hospital of GMU is one of the first batch of 74 National Clinical Teaching and Training Demonstration Centers), and 7 non-affiliated ones. Especially, GMU, the People’s Government of Zhanggong District of Ganzhou, as well as the high-level expert teams at home and abroad, have set up Gannan Institute of Innovation and Translational Medicine in Ganzhou, Jiangxi province. In 2007, GMU passed the evaluation of Undergraduate Teaching Level of the Ministry of Education of China. In 2013, GMU became the 13th one of the first batch universities to pass the Undergraduate Clinical Medicine Professional Certification of the Ministry of Education of China. In 2018, GMU passed the Undergraduate Teaching Assessment of the Ministry of Education of China. In 2019, GMU passed the Clinical Medicine Sciences Majors Extension Certification of the Ministry of Education of China, enjoying 9 years’ validity. Until 2020, the passing rate of the National Medical Licensing Examination for the Clinical Medicine Sciences majors’ graduates of GMU was higher than the national average level over the past 15 consecutive years.
GMU adheres to the aim of serving the regional economic development based on talents training and scientific research. GMU has built its own characteristics and advantages in the fields of Pathogenesis, Epidemic Characteristics, New Diagnosis and Treatment Technology, First Aid and Postoperative Management of Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Diseases, New Targets and Technologies for the Prevention and Treatment of Ischemic Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Diseases, Stem Cell Research and Clinical Transformation, Immunological Mechanism of Intestinal Inflammation, Cancer and Metabolic Diseases, Molecular Pathology Detection Technology, Diagnosis and Treatment of Hemangioma and Vascular Malformation, Minimally Invasive Urology Technology, Medical Big Data, Precision Medicine Research, Geriatrics and Geriatric Rehabilitation, Bone and Joint Degenerative Diseases, the Impact of Rare Earth on Environment and Human Health, the Development of the Health Care and Functional Products of Camellia Oleife, Research and Development of Chinese Herbal Medicine with Gannan Characteristics, the History of Medical and Health Care in the Central Soviet Area and the Strategic Study of Healthy China etc. And GMU has achieved a number of symbolic achievements and has published academic papers in the top international journals Cell, European Urology, Hepatology and Nature Communications. In recent years, GMU undertook more than 170 NSFC projects. GMU wins 1 National Science and Technology Progress Award, 1 Science and Technology Progress Award of the Ministry of Health, 1 Science and Technology Progress Award of the National Science Committee, 13 Natural Science Awards of Jiangxi Province, 14 Science and Technology Progress Awards of Jiangxi Province, 10 Outstanding Social Sciences Achievement Awards in Jiangxi Province, 1 Innovation Award of Jiangxi Province, 191 authorized patents, including 22 invention patents and 169 utility model patents. Until now, GMU has trained more than 90,000 medical talents, which they have become the health guardians of the people and made important contributions to the development of health undertakings of China. At the beginning of 2020, the 3 affiliated hospitals of GMU successively dispatched 115 medical members to Wuhan and Suizhou in 6 batches for the fight against the COVID-19, contributing wisdom and strength to winning the war of prevention and control of the COVID-19 in China.

GMU attaches great importance to foreign cooperation and exchanges, and has established exchanges and cooperation relations with more than 20 universities and scientific research institutions in the United States, Britain, Germany and other countries (regions). GMU and Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) respectively establish a teacher-student training base at the opposite country, which GMU becomes the sole overseas clinical teaching training base for medical doctors for LMU. GMU has become a collaborative unit with the German Heart Center (Berlin). GMU began recruiting overseas students in 2005, and 85% of them have passed the Medical Licensing Examination for the Clinical Medicine Sciences majors in their home countries. In 2021, the passing rate of Pakistani students trained by GMU in the Pakistani medical licensing examination reached 100%, far exceeding the 33.08% average passing rate. Foreign students and graduates were sent to Britain, Australia, Japan, South Korea, India and Philippines since 2007. GMU actively hosted the China-Germany Hospital Management Forum, Hemangioma International Forum, Mayo Hospital Management Forum, the National Children's Cancer Seminar, Rural Targeted-area Medical Students’ Cultivation Seminar etc. GMU actively participates in foreign medical assistance. 7 doctors have been to Tunisia, Chad and other African countries to carry out international medical assistance, promoting the construction of the Community of the Shared Future for Mankind Healthcare.
