The predecessor of the school was the "Dehong State Health School" founded in 1960. It was upgraded to Dehong Vocational College in 2008. In 2009, it was approved by the Ministry of Education to formally recruit full-time junior college students. In July 2015, Dehong National Secondary Vocational School (Dehong National Technical School) was merged into Dehong Vocational College as a whole, and Dehong National Secondary Vocational School and Dehong National Technical School were merged into Dehong Vocational College.
