Daqing Normal University is located in Daqing, a famous Chinese oil industry city, which enjoys the reputation of "the capital of green oil, the city of natural lakes and the hometown of hot springs in the North". The school's predecessor was Daqing Normal School founded in 1965. In 1980, it was upgraded to Daqing Teachers College with the approval of the Ministry of Education. In 1993, it was converted into Daqing College. In May 2004, the Ministry of Education officially approved the establishment of Daqing Teachers College on the basis of Daqing College.

After more than half a century of running a school, the University has worked hard, forged ahead, formed the motto of "self-improvement, perfection", condensed the school-running philosophy of "building a school with quality and pursuing excellence", and formed the school-running characteristics of "running a school and educating people with the spirit of Daqing Iron Man". Based on Daqing, serving Longjiang and facing the whole country, the school persists in serving basic education, local economic and social development and petroleum and petrochemical industry, and constantly promotes the construction of application-oriented undergraduate colleges with local characteristics. In 2011 and 2018, the school successfully passed the qualification assessment and audit assessment of undergraduate teaching in ordinary colleges and universities. In 2017, it was approved as a master's degree project construction unit. In 2019, the school was selected as "Heilongjiang Province Characteristic Applied Undergraduate Demonstration Construction University"; In 2020, it was selected as the "Heilongjiang Province Deepening Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Reform Model University Training Unit". There are 705 faculty members and 519 full-time teachers in the school. There are 256 senior professional titles such as full professors and associate professors, 122 doctoral students. Teachers with master's degree or above account for 88.43% of the total number of teachers, with 226 "double-qualified" teachers and 5 foreign teachers. One person enjoys the special allowance of the State Council, three people enjoy the allowance of Heilongjiang province government, one second-class professor of Heilongjiang province and one outstanding young and middle-aged expert of Heilongjiang province. There are 14 colleges in the University , offering 45 undergraduate majors, covering 8 disciplines including literature, science, education, engineering, law, management, art and economics. Electronic engineering, marketing, law, primary education, Chinese language and literature, English, mathematics and applied mathematics, biotechnology are the first-class undergraduate specialty construction points in Heilongjiang Province, preschool education specialty is the national first-class undergraduate specialty construction point and national characteristic specialty construction point, and preschool education is the provincial key construction discipline.

The University adheres to the talent training as the center, further promotes the reform of applied talent training mode, implements the outstanding talent training plan, vigorously strengthens practical teaching, continuously deepens the integration of production and education, strengthens the construction of quality assurance system, and promotes the improvement of teaching quality. There are 1 national-level first-class social practice course, 7 provincial-level excellent courses, 1 provincial-level excellent video open course, 4 provincial-level excellent online open courses, 3 provincial-level online and offline mixed first-class courses, 4 provincial-level offline first-class courses, 1 provincial-level first-class social practice course and 2 provincial-level first-class virtual simulation experiment teaching courses. Daqing Spiritual Research Center is a provincial philosophy and social sciences research base and a provincial university humanities and social sciences key research base. Heilongjiang Provincial Key Laboratory of Applied Chemistry and Technology of Oilfield is the key laboratory of Heilongjiang Province. The Applied Chemistry Laboratory of Oilfield is a key laboratory of universities in Heilongjiang Province. The sub-center of the National Research and Development Center for Sustainable Exploitation of Old Terrestrial Sandstone Oilfields, the Center for Basic Education Research and Teacher Training in the Western Region of Heilongjiang Province, the anniversary Research Base of the Wetland Research Center of Chinese Academy of Sciences and the National Social Practice Training Base of Ideological and Political Teachers in Colleges and Universities of the Ministry of Education are located in schools. Since the "Thirteenth Five-Year Plan", the school has undertaken 170 provincial-level and ministerial-level projects, including 3 national social science fund projects, 1 national natural science fund project, 1 sub-project of major national social science fund projects and 1 national art fund project. At the same time, it also undertakes 321 municipal level projects. Won 436 scientific research achievement awards at the municipal (bureau) level and above, among which 27 were awarded the Outstanding Achievement Award of Social Sciences in Heilongjiang Province. The Daqing Spirit of our school and the Research Center for Economic and Social Development in the West of Longjiang were selected as the second batch of key cultivation think tanks in Heilongjiang Province and CTTI think tanks of Nanjing University. Daqing Spiritual Research Center, Daqing Economic Society and Daqing Tourism Development and Management Research Center were selected as the first batch of key cultivation think tanks in Daqing. "anniversary Oil Pottery" is listed as the key cultural industry project in the 13th Five-Year Plan of Heilongjiang Province.

The University insists on seeking support through service, seeking development through contribution, and actively serving basic education, local economy, society and petroleum and petrochemical industry. The school gives full play to the role of the research and training center of basic education in the western region of Heilongjiang Province, undertakes the training program of "National Training Plan" with high quality, and trains nearly 3,000 teachers of various disciplines.
